Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boeke Funeral Home - Radcliffe on Aug. 29, 2023.
Joel Hodnefield age 58 of Boone died on August 25, 2023 at his home.
Joel Isaac Hodnefield was born July 2, 1965 in
Story City, Iowa. He graduated from Radcliffe High School. He was the second of three children born to Sharon and Jerome Hodnefield. During his youth he farmed his parents' land and helped other farmers in the area to support his family.
After he graduated from Radcliffe, he was given an academic scholarship. He declined. Instead, he remained at the farm for many years to care for his family and their land. He left the farm on his 38th year.
Joel loved to travel. Of the many states he traveled--Atlantic to Pacific--his favorite state was Montana. During his travels Joel learned how to swim and fish. His "Bro" David John would exclaim "He's a natural!" And Joel loved it!
Joel loved his daughters Emma and Kaylee Hodnefield. And had a strong bond with David Michael. They will forever remain in his light.
Joel met Rie.
There is a kindness that, if you do not know love, will only confuse you. Love is what Joel slowly, carefully and decidedly taught Rie.
"There is no right or wrong. Let me pour out my heart to you and--someday--you may understand how deeply I love you. Then we will know how to be."
Joel was preceded in death by his brother Jason Hodnefield, sister Joleen Hodnefield, mother Sharon Hodnefield, father Jerome Hodnefield, mother-in-law Betty Rose McGovern and brother-in-law Phil Immesote.
Joel is survived by survived by his wife Rie McGovern, daughters Kaylee and Emma Hodnefield, David Imberti, father-in-law Mick McGovern, brothers-in-law David McGovern, Kenn and Sally McGovern, Mark and Anna McGovern, sister-in-law Kathie and Don Frieson and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews all of whom loved him dearly.
In Fields of Kindness: In Loving Memory of Joel
By Anna McGovern
In fields of green and skies so wide,
Joel's gentle heart did bide.
A farmer's hands, a loving soul,
In kindness, he played his role.
With every seed he sowed with care,
He nurtured life beyond compare.
Not just the crops that thrived and grew,
But also hearts he touched and knew.
The earth may claim his weary frame,
But love and memories of Joel remain the same.
His legacy of goodness sown,
In every heart, a home has grown.
Though he has left this mortal plane,
His spirit's touch will still remain.
In whispered winds and rustling leaves,
In every heart that still believes.
Marie, his partner through all life's years,
Shared in his joys, wiped away his tears.
Remember the love that forever binds,
In the memories you both designed.
So let us gather, hearts held tight,
Remembering Joel in the soft sunlight.
A farmer, a friend, forever kind,
His presence in our souls entwined.
