George Chamberlain Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
George A. Chamberlain III was born February 2, 1925, in Malvern, Arkansas. He was the son of George A. and Mamie (Wright) Chamberlain II.
The family moved many times, but his favorite memories were the time they lived in Galveston, Texas. George was a WW II veteran serving in the ARMY in Papua, New Guinea and the Philippines.
George married June Andrews on December 24, 1946, in Rogers, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on July 10, 2002. They came to Iowa in 1948 to live on a farm around St. Anthony where George worked as a hired hand for Jesse North. Eventually, George rented Jesse's farms. George was a talented guy, not only did he love farming, but he could also overhaul a tractor engine, do carpentry, and electrical. He did crop rotation, raised cattle, hogs, sheep, and milked cows. He moved the family to Bangor to rent a larger farm and later bought a farm by Whitten, Iowa. While farming there, he supplemented his income by driving a truck delivering seed corn for Trojan Seed out of Eldora. He worked for Grey Iron Foundry in Marshalltown, drove a semi for Warren out of Waterloo and later drove a semi for Mayflower. Then he came back to rent Jesse North's farms along with farming his own farm. He then drove a semi for Ray Willets of Bangor and eventually had a share in a semi driving coast to coast for Tri State out of Joplin, Missouri. He rented out his farms and drove semi until age 72 when he retired.
George passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025 at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard, IA.
He is survived by his children, Collette (Tony) Lindeman of Keokuk, IA, James (Christine) Chamberlain of Durham, NC, Kim (Garry) McDowall of Hutto, TX; grandchildren, Brent (Mani) Lindeman of Falls Church, VA, Nathan (Jill) Lindeman of Blooming Prairie, MN, Karen Melissa (Jeffrey) Chamberlain of Cary, NC, Ryan Chamberlain of Durham, NC, Amy Norton of Wilson, OK, Julie (Josh) Thomas of Wilson, OK, Daniel (Jessica) McDowall of Clermont, FL; Elise (Cody) Hammock of Jarrell, TX, Hunter McDowall of Grand Rapids, MI and Jordan McDowall of Hutto, TX; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister Ramona Smith of Carmel, CA; sister-in-law Judith Andrews of Eldora, IA; along with several nieces and nephews.
