John "Little John" William Ganzak
December 15, 1930 - June 23, 2022
John passed quietly in his sleep with family at his side. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the Infantry. Born in Duquesne and raised in McKeesport he was known as "Little John from the Northside" to all who knew him.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Garnet a mere 13 months earlier, his Mother Pearl Kampus and his brother Regis. He is survived by his children Anthony (Squig) (Amy) Ganzak, Pandora Howell and Lisa (Bob) Derbis, nephew Jim (Corine) Miller, seven grandchildren, Alyssa (Dan) Faughnan, Johnnie Howell, Austin and Jenna Derbis, Amber, Ashley and Andrew Ondrey. John was also the proud great-grandfather of seven, Noah, Jocelyn, Addison, Emily, Maddox, Blake and Chase.
He was a laborer by trade working the docks for Universal Carloading early in his career and later working the mills at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel.
John was a fixture at the Garfield Club, VFW and American Legion. He spent most of his free time recently at Rivers Casino enjoying his one vice, craps. An avid sports fan of all of the Pittsburgh teams, especially the betting lines.
The family wishes to thank the Hope Hospice nurses and aides and staff of Holy Family Manor home in West View who cared for John. They also wish to thank the doctors, nurses and aides who work at both Pittsburgh VA medical centers who for the past 35 years have provided top notch care for him.
Family will welcome friends on Sunday from 2-8pm at Schellhaas Funeral Home, Inc., 388 Center Avenue, West View, PA 15229. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11am at Christ Our Savior, St. Boniface Church.
