John Jay Phillips, known to his loved ones as Jack, passed away on November 16, 2023, at the age of 84. He was born on June 17, 1939, in Monticello, NY, and he peacefully left this world at his residence in Pine Bush, NY. Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
In his professional career, Jack retired from VAW of America where he held the esteemed position of Head of Security. Prior to that, he dedicated over 18 1/2 years of service as a lieutenant for the Ellenville Police Department. Jack's entrepreneurial spirit also led him to own the Getty Gas Station in Ellenville.
Beyond his successful career endeavors, Jack was a man with numerous hobbies and interests. He delighted in playing golf and took pleasure in adventurous trips to Lake George. These activities brought him immense joy and allowed him to create treasured memories with family and friends.
Throughout his life, Jack accomplished many notable feats that he considered sources of pride. He held the distinguished status of being a Life Member of the Pioneer Engine Company. Additionally, he was an esteemed member of the Wawarsing Masonic Lodge, where he served as past master. His commitment to service extended beyond these organizations as he volunteered his time with the Noon Day Club.
Jack will be deeply missed by his dedicated wife Phyllis Phillips and their children: Tammy Newman and her husband Steve; Sandy Cockshutte and her husband William. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren: Matthew Newman and his wife Holly; Gayle Newman; Stacey Ross and her husband Bill; Brianna Cockshutte; as well as his great-grandchildren Casey, Kourtney, Gabriel. Jack's legacy also lives on through his uncle David Caston, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Gertrude Phillips, as well as his sister Barbara Quick.
Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects on November 20, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville, NY.
A Graveside Service to celebrate Jack's life will be conducted at Fantinekill Cemetery in Ellenville, NY, on November 21, 2023 at 11:00.
