Mr. Shelley was born in Mullins, a son of the late Hoyt Shelley, Sr. and Capitola Murrow Shelley. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Boseman Shelley, and a brother, Hoyt Shelley, Jr. He was a retired truck driver, having worked for Southeastern Freight Lines for many years. He was also a veteran, having served his country in the United States Navy.
Surviving are his sons: John M. Shelley, Jr. (Alicia) of Marion, SC, Jason Shelley of Mandeville, LA, and Jamie Shelley (Larry Altman) of North Augusta, SC; brothers, James Shelley (Wanda) of Elgin, SC and Morris Shelley (Hoa) of Havelock, NC; sisters: Carolyn Stone of Johnsonville, SC, Connie Shelley of Marion, SC and Wanda Shelley of Marion, SC; grandchildren: John Russell Shelley, Jase Shelley and Sara Lane (Garrett); and one great-grandchild, Blakely Lane; as well as his special dog, Bella.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society (Cancer.org) 950 48th Avenue North, Suite 101 Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 or to the Alzheimer's Association (ALZ.org) 8180 Greensboro Drive, Suite 400 McLean, VA 22102.
