Joseph Anneken

Joseph (Joe) Henry Anneken passed away unexpectedly at the age of 63. 

Joe is survived by his wife of 45 years, Shirley (nee Furnish) and their two children Darla Freeman and Jeremy Anneken and five grandchildren Reagan, Emily, Jacob, Tommy and Kenny. 

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Dorothy Anneken and his sister Carol Anneken.  He is survived by his siblings Dave (Carol) Anneken, Janet Anneken, Mary Kay Durham, Patricia (Jim) Kuhl, Rose (Brad) Franks, Nancy (Randy) Ashley, Barb (Rusty) Nall, Steve (Kathy) Anneken, Joyce Anneken, Tom (Diane) Anneken and many nieces and nephews. 

Joe was born and raised in The Village of Elmwood Place where he resided his whole life.  He was very passionate about the well being of the Village of Elmwood and the citizens who live there.  He was a member of the Village council for many years and was serving as the current Mayor at the time of his passing. 

He was a skilled machinist for 45 years. He was also a handyman who could fix anything.  If you asked him to help with a project he would rarely decline or say no, but if he knew it might be a while before he could get to it, his response would be “I’ll put it on the list.”

He enjoyed traveling in his RV, camping and trail riding his ATV. He loved watching the Andy Griffith show and Barney Fife, so much so that he purchased and restored a replica of the Mayberry squad car.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, his grandchildren, extended family and lifelong friends.

Those of you who know the story about the squirrel that went into his garage and stole his doughnuts, may you forever be reminded of Joe when you see one of those furry little creatures.

Visitation will take place at Highland Avenue Baptist Church 6110 Highland Ave. Elmwood, Thursday from 10 AM until Funeral Service at 12 Noon.
