Obituary
June C. Mazzello, age 91 of Portage, died on December 1, 2022, at Story Point Assisted Living. She was born on November 27, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John and Marie (Vyeko) Shon. June was a graduate of Mattawan High School. For over 30 years, she was the administrative assistant at Jack Lawrence Productions in Galesburg. On June 24, 2000, June married Daniel Mazzello in South Haven, Michigan. She was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Parish. June was a member of the Hot 6 Women's Group and the Ladies Library Association of Kalamazoo. She was always active and enjoyed downhill skiing, sailing, going to the gym, and golfing. June will be remembered as the friend everyone wishes they had. Her family includes her husband, Daniel Mazzello; her son Thomas Day; one grandchild and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a sister. Following cremation, June will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Friday, December 16th at 12:00 PM, Noon. Friends are welcome to join with the family for the graveside service. Donations may be made to the Ladies Library Association of Kalamazoo. I remember June and her brother John from the 1940s, when they lived on "Eagle Lake Road". But my brother Larry was in her Matawan class, I believe, and really admired her. We tried to get them together in 2015, but were unsuccessful. He died in December 2022 also. I know he would have deeply shared your sorrow.
