Larry Fuquay

Larry Wayne Fuquay, 74, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and loved ones, on Thursday, July 20th, 2023. He was born on December 1st, 1948 in Beech Grove, Indiana.
He served in the United States Army in the early '70s. Following an honorable discharge in 1976, he acquired a job at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he would remain an employee for 40+ years. During his tenure at Methodist Hospital, Larry worked his way up, holding various job positions, while at the same time, attending school and learning the skills to become a Certified Surgical Technologist. In 1982, he, and a small host of other surgical team professionals at Methodist, had the rare opportunity and privilege of working alongside Dr. Harold "Hal" Halbrook, who pioneered Indiana's first heart transplant. Prior to retirement, Larry was one of the managers for the Surgical Technologist team at Methodist, which is now known as IU Health Hospital. He was an avid supporter of the Damien Center located in Indianapolis.
He is survived by his daughter, JoAnna L. Johnson; his two grandchildren, Jennifer (David) McDowell and Jamie Johnson, two great-granddaughters, Gracie and Madelyn "Maddie" McDowell, his three sisters, Janet Caleau, Laura Wilson and Rella Caplinger, a brother, Jerren Spurlin, a special nephew, Anthony "Tony" Anastor and an entire host of additional nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his long-term partner, Jerry W. Park, his parents, Raymond & Barbara (Spurlin) Fuquay, his sisters Diane Hall and Connie Rukes, and a brother, Ronald Fuquay.
Visitation will be Monday, July 31st, 2023 at 11:00 am with a Memorial Service beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory-Franklin Township located at 5950 E. Thompson Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46237. Burial services will be held at Orchard Hill Cemetery.
