Laura Ellen DeWerff, 58, passed away with family by her side, February 6, 2025, in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born August 24, 1966, to Vernon and Mary Ann (Desemo) Schartz in Larned.
Laura married Scott DeWerff September 10, 1999, in Great Bend. She owned and operated delivering hay around the area. She held her CDL and took pride in logging over a million miles and being accident and ticket free. In 1999, Laura started her career working for Straub's International as an Administrative Assistant for 20 years until her retirement in 2019. She served as secretary and treasurer for Cheyenne Bottoms Sportsman Club. She loved being there and took much pride in making sure the grounds were kept. She found peace walking the area, taking in the scenery, while walking her dog. Laura loved to bake and was eager to share her creations with others. She had a selfless heart and took time to nurture friends and family. She was a member of Scared Heart Church.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 25 years, Scott DeWerff; son, Mark Bauer and his wife Kerry and their daughters Sophia Bauer and Mia Bauer of Great Bend; stepdaughter, Kelsee Hauser and her husband Jeff and their daughters Brooklynn Hauser and Emmy Hauser of Manhattan; sister, Ann Meyer (Kelly) of Larned; brothers, Michael Schartz (Jana) of Larned, Matthew Schartz (Danita) of Great Bend; beloved Cavapoo, Kimber. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Mary Ann Schartz; sisters, Patty Seeman and Mary Catherine Schartz.
