Maria Elena Lyons

Maria Elena Lyons, 82, of Voorhees, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2023, at home. Born on September 13, 1941, in Camden, NJ, to the late John and Marie Lyons.
Maria Elena's one true love was her family. As one of four siblings and the only daughter, her devotion to her brothers never wavered. She was raised surrounded by cousins she loved like brothers and sisters and those relationships remained integral to her throughout her life. She was "Aunt Ree" to twelve nieces and nephews and 29 grandnieces and grandnephews. Maria Elena loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her family, to keep up with news on who was doing what and she was always quick to send a text and check in when she thought someone needed an encouraging word.
With her undeniable grace and beauty Maria Elena easily found work as a model in her younger years. Her career path later led her to the Philadelphia Eagles' ticket office, where she was not only a beloved member of the team but also secured ticket connections that kept her friends and family in the stands of the Vet for years. Eventually she found a long term career as a banking assistant at People's Bank, followed by working as a receptionist at the law firm of Klett, Rooney, Lieber & Schloring, P.C. She enjoyed her work at the firm, welcoming clients, fostering relationships with her co-workers and the excitement of commuting into Philadelphia. She moved on to the Katz JCC in Cherry Hill, where she ended her career.
A devout parishioner of St. Thomas More Church in Cherry Hill, Maria Elena's faith was a cornerstone of her life. From her childhood days at 12th and Landis in Sea Isle City with her parents, aunts, uncles and small army of brothers and cousins, Maria Elena loved the Jersey shore. Her affection for Sea Isle was only rivaled by her steadfast loyalty to the Philadelphia Eagles. Every Sunday in the fall, you would find her in front of her TV, rooting for her Birds. She spent the 25th of December surrounded by family while watching the Eagles secure a victory against the Giants. It was all she wanted for Christmas.
Maria Elena was predeceased by her brothers, John T. Lyons and his wife Barbara, and William R. Lyons and his wife Florence. She is survived by her brother, David Lyons and his wife Janet, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members who will miss her dearly.
A memorial visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, on Friday, January 5, 2024, at St. Thomas More 1439 Springdale Rd, Cherry Hill, NJ 08003. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am. Inurnment to follow at Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson.
