Mark McIver Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jun. 11, 2024.
Mark McIver, cherished by many and beloved by all who knew him, passed away on June 2nd, 2024, at the age of 65, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness. Born on October 30, 1958, to the late Elizabeth (Graham) and Lawrence McIver, Mark grew up in Weymouth alongside his seven siblings. It was during this time that he developed many lifelong connections and friendships. In fact, the love of his life, the late Ginnie (Leary), grew up just around the corner during his childhood years. They would go on to reconnect and marry years later. The two settled in Hanover to raise their daughter.
Driven by his passion for learning and technology, Mark embarked on a career path that saw him evolve from working in the family business to becoming a self-taught expert in Information Technology. With dedication and hard work he worked his way up to the esteemed role of IT Director, first in the software industry and then the healthcare sector. He was a thought leader and provided tremendous contributions to his place of work. But maybe most important of all were the small, helpful interactions he had with his colleagues. Additionally, Mark had an entrepreneurial spirit, growing a side business fixing and building computers to service those in his community.
In his leisure time, Mark took great pride in tending to his home and yard. He enjoyed spending time hosting cookouts and sharing stories around the firepit. Mark also had a passion for riding motorcycles and enjoyed every opportunity he had to take his Harley Davidson out on the road.
Above all, Mark's greatest source of pride and joy was his daughter, Erin McIver Quintero. After the loss of his wife, Ginnie, Mark dedicated himself to raising Erin as a single father. His love and devotion to her knew no bounds, and his face would light up whenever he spoke of her accomplishments.
Though Mark may have departed this world far too soon, the mark he left on the hearts of those who knew him will endure for eternity. His kindness, humor, and generosity will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

I met Mark in 2014 when I became the PACS admin at Milton hospital. We quickly became friends. We would both commiserate over some of the most baffling and often times idiotic decisions that our leadership team made. We were pretty vocal too!! We must´ve sounded like two old crows crying into the wind because not a soul listened to us!

But, what I realized was that Mark was always seeking to be better, to be creative. He always had ideas despite them being knocked down from the powers that be. He was ever determined and endured when others would have thrown in the towel. Even I did. But when the time came, when it was just right, he made his move to something bigger, better, and more impactful.

Not only was he good at his job, but he was a great friend too. Imperfect, like we all are. He was devoted to his family as he loved his daughter, he would always tell me about the things she was up to in her life and you could tell that he was proud.

I am so very saddened to hear that he is at rest, but I´m glad that I was able to meet him, work alongside him, and call him my friend.

Rest well, Mark!

So sorry, Erin, for your loss. I remember the pride your dad took in hearing you sing. We have thought of you, often.
