Mr. Marvin H. Brady, 82 of Abingdon, passed away at 7:58 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2022 at his home.
He was born August 12, 1940 in Seaton, Illinois, the son of Guss and Olive Irene (Strickler) Brady. He married Candice "Candy" Phelps on August 17, 1973 in Abingdon. She preceded him in death on February 5, 1997. He later married Judith "Judy" McCrery on September 23, 2000 in Abingdon and she preceded him in death on December 18, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Gerald "Scotty" Brady, Donald Brady and John Brady, and one sister, Elsa Edmiston.
Marvin is survived by one daughter, Corinna Ryan of Abingdon; three sons, Brian Brady of Abingdon, Toby (Marissa) Brady of Roseville and Mike (Cathy) Brady of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Karmell (and Rick) Smith of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina and Karla (and Gary) Carpenter of Davenport, Iowa; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Gracie Brady of Gilbert, Arizona; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
He grew up in Seaton and moved with his family to Abingdon in 1955. He was an Army veteran. He was a self-employed carpenter and owned and operated Brady Roofing and Seamless Gutters, retiring in 2005. He attended New Harvest Church in Abingdon. His hobbies included metal detecting, making and selling barn board crafts and ball point pens. He enjoyed being with family and friends and having a good time with a joke or two.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2022 at the Abingdon Cemetery with Pastor Ron Larson officiating followed by military rites by the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. The family will also receive relatives and friends in a time of food and fellowship following the graveside service at the New Harvest Church Fellowship Room, 835 W. Martin St. in Abingdon, as they continue to celebrate Marvin's Life. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Knox County Shop with a Cop. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
