Mary L. Garcia, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep, entering the gates of the Lord with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise at 3:07 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
Mary was born in Poteet, Texas on May 17, 1934, to Clemente and Juanita (Alvarado) Valdez. She was raised along with her six siblings in Pleasanton, Texas, before moving to San Antonio where she met and married her husband of 48 yrs, U.S. Airman Enrique L. Garcia Jr. She was a proud descendant of Gregorio Esparza, defender and hero of the Battle of the Alamo.
Mary was caring, tender, loving and kind, and spent her entire life giving of herself in service to others. Due to her gentle nature, she made many friends in life including that of her childhood friend of 80 years, Tonia Garcia, whom she loved dearly.
Mary enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, reading her bible, and praying, but above all, she loved sharing the good news of the gospel, that 'God, who so loved the world gave his one and only son, Jesus Christ, (who died for our sins and was resurrected), that whoever believes (and places their trust) in him will have everlasting life'. John 3:16
She is survived by her children, Juanita Meyer, Rebecca Sanchez, Ronald Garcia, Retta (Jeff) Briggs, Susana Garcia, Enrique Garcia III, Victoria Garcia Ammann; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; brother, Juan Valdez; sisters, Liria Valdez, Maria Elena Munoz and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding her in death are her husband, parents, grandson Mark A. Ward, sisters Mercedes Martinez and Consuelo Lopez and brother, Clemente C. Valdez.
Always remembered and forever in our hearts, she is deeply loved and her sweet soul will be greatly missed.
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:34-35
The family wishes to thank Hope Hospice for their excellence in care and support.
