MARY LOUISE ORTMEYER ACUFF CROES age 98 of Knoxville, TN, died June 21, 2023 at home surrounded by family.
Born to Henry J. Ortmeyer and Lydia Knernschield Ortmeyer of Jefferson City, MO on April 19, 1925.
Preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Tea Edward Acuff (SR), MD and second husband John A (Jack) Croes, her son, Donald Steven Acuff, MD, step-mother Ellen Richter Ortmeyer, and Brother Clifford J. Ortmeyer his wife, Evie Ann.
Mary focused on an appreciative family and is survived by children Tea Edward (Serena Wang, MD) Acuff JR, MD of Dallas, TX, Dr. Susan Acuff (John) Blas of Augusta, GA, Janet (Stanley Elmo) Reinhiolz of Knoxville, Lynda Acuff (Donald, MD) Daughter-in-law, of Lenoir City, TN; Step Sisters Drs. Susan Ortmeyer (Jim) Bachman and C. Jane (Mike) Gueney both of Estes Park, CO. Grandchildren: Cassidy (JJ) Williams, Haley (Graham) Todd, Matt (Karen) Acuff, Rachel Acuff, Tea Acuff III, Jack Henry (Hailey) Dyer, Josey Dyer; and two great grandchildren, Wyatt and Roy Todd, along with several nieces and nephews.
Mary was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, and enthusiastic community personality and supporter including Sunday School teacher of 25 years, LWML member, PTA officer in schools at Fountain City Elementary, Gresham Jr. High & Central High Schools. She was co-Founder and board member of Fountain City Town Hall and recognized as Woman of the Year award of Fountain City. After her family matured, she returned to nursing as a Knox County nurse and senior citizen home aid. She was a graduate RN from UT School of Nursing, Student Nurse Army Cadet Core, Retired Public Health Nurse of the Knox County Health Dept, and followed her husband to a tour of duty in occupied Japan after WWII.
The family will hold a memorial service at First Lutheran Church (Knoxville, TN) at 11 AM on July 1, 2023, Church located at 1207 North Broadway. Pastor Ed Maanum officiating.
Burial will be private at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville, TN interred with her first husband, Tea Edward Acuff, SR, MD. Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Croes Family.
