Matt Andrew Linger passed away peacefully with his wife, Kimberly, at his side in the late evening of January 25, 2023.
Matt was born in Wurzburg, Germany to BJ and Sandi Linger. The son of a father who served in the US Army, he spent some years growing up in Panama, where he developed a love for the ocean. During Matt’s youth, he enjoyed being a brother to his younger siblings, Jill and Mark, and hanging out with his older sister, Julie. They could often be found at a swimming pool, riding bicycles or mini-bikes and roller-skating. Matt’s passions as a youth were music and playing drums and the guitar. He was also a devout dog lover.
Matt attended East High School, where he studied and participated in track and field. One of his track coaches dubbed him ‘lickity-split.’ This track coach later became his brother-in-law (Terence). Matt graduated in 1985 from East, then moved to Texas with his best friend, Sam Saur, to attend The Ocean Corporation where he certified to be a Commercial Diver and Diving Medical Technician. His career took him to Michigan, Louisiana and Texas where he worked offshore. After an injury ended his diving career, he spent time working briefly for Union Pacific Railroad, then spent the remainder of his career working at Cheyenne Regional Hospital as an OR anesthesia tech and operated their HBO wound care unit.
Matt was most known to be a sensitive and caring man who was generous, protective, and had a warmth and humor that people were drawn to. Matt and his wife Kimberly met and found commonalities with their hospital careers and love for motorcycles and dogs (Toby, Smasher, Jezebel, Alize, Champ, Musha Key, Lilly, Bo Jangles, Jade and Otis Henry). Matt and Kim found great comfort during Matt’s final months with the love and support they received from the hospital community.
Matt is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Kimberly; stepdaughters Shannon Van Pay, Stacie Lawson (Josh); stepson Seth Van Pay (Lacey); bonus daughter Michelle Sowder (granddaughter Tatum MacIlquam); his mother Sandi Reeve (Ed); aunt Alice Ormiston; sisters Julie Johnson (Terence), Jill Trevaskis (Troy), half-sister Teri Powell; brothers Mark Linger (Stacie), half-brother David Linger (Linda); nephews Stacey D Johnson, Karson Fischer, Mason Linger, Chase Linger, Kash Trevaskis, Sean Powell (Rachel); and nieces Ashley Marie Manyou, Margaret Delanie Fischer, Kambria Trevaskis, and Marley Trevaskis, as well as several great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Orris Andrew and Margaret Marie Ormiston, his nephew, Marcus Anthony Johnson, and his father Bobbie Joe Linger.
Matt’s Memorial Service will be held at Schrader, Aragon, Jacoby Funeral Home (2222 Russell Ave, Cheyenne, WY 82001) at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 4, 2023. A Celebration of Life reception will follow Matt’s Memorial Service.
