Mrs. Nancy Diane McCleskey, of
Rome, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 23, 1953, in
Rome, Georgia, Nancy was the daughter of the late Hubert "Buddy" Roberson and Katherine Roberson (formerly Mull). She is also preceded in death by her son whom she loved unconditionally, Wayne "Cookie" McCleskey; her brother, Lamar Roberson; and her grandparents, Tommy & Ruby Mull Sr. and Gilbert & Jessie Roberson.
Nancy graduated from Pepperell High School in 1972. and later dedicated more than 11 years of her life to the Floyd County School System as a bus driver, where she poured her heart into caring for the children she drove each day. She went far beyond simply getting them to and from school-she bought Christmas presents, made sure they had warm clothes in the winter, and cared for them as if they were her own. Her generosity and kindness left a lasting mark on countless lives. Known for her wild sense of humor, Nancy was a natural prankster and the life of every gathering. She loved making others laugh, and her sass and strong will ensured she was never afraid to speak her mind when needed. Nancy found joy in fishing, traveling, and especially gardening. She had a gift for growing beautiful flowers and took great pride in her green thumb. She was a member of Wax Baptist Church, where she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with all her heart. Above all else, Nancy's greatest joy was her family. She cherished her children, spoiled her grandchildren, and loved every moment spent with those dearest to her. Family always came first, and her love for them was immeasurable.
Nancy's legacy will be remembered through the laughter she inspired, the kindness she shared, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her husband of 54 years, Bill McCleskey; her loving daughters, Jada McCleskey and April Ross (Scott); her grandchildren, Marsha Roberson (Joe), Scott Ross Jr. (Leila), and Hunter Chambers; her great-grandchildren, Zach Roberson, Laura Roberson, Lincoln Ross, and Vivien Ross; her siblings, Judie Benefield (Walter), Cathy Ray, and Eric Roberson (Michele); as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
