Patsy was born on May 12, 1953 in Tallassee, Alabama to parents John Thomas Clayton and Anna Louise Mason Clayton. She began working as a tool packer at JH Williams (now known as SnapOn) and continued there for over 15 years. Later, Patsy earned an associate degree and teaching certificate from Columbus Tech and then worked as a Paraprofessional for River Rd. Elementary School for 10 years. Patsy was widely known for her strong work ethic and her love for children
Throughout her life, Patsy loved to sing. She sang to her family at home, regularly accompanied her husband’s band--especially when they covered Patsy Cline tunes, and in later years thoroughly enjoyed singing karaoke. She loved dancing, laughing, and celebrating life whenever she had the opportunity. Patsy was a devoted wife to her husband Richard for almost 40 years, a wonderful mom and grandma, and a great friend. As a natural redhead, her personality was vibrant, and she was a dynamic presence wherever she went. Patsy was generous and selfless, putting others before herself right to the very end.
In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard Stephen Patterson Sr.; sisters Becky Stephens, Generia Appel, and Rita Brown; brother Donald Clayton; and stepsons William Patterson, Richard Patterson Jr., Timothy Patterson, and Mitchell Patterson.
Patsy is survived by her daughters Becky Buckley, Susan Patterson Stanford (Steve), Mary King (Brian), and Kaylene Griffis (Sean); son Jason Patterson (Cynthia); stepson Patrick Patterson; sisters Marjorie Bumpous and Ann Inman; brothers Kenny Clayton and Billy Clayton; grandchildren Zack Patterson, Alex South, Hannah South, Avery Patterson, Eli Patterson; Grayson Patterson, Tessa Patterson, Dylan King, Ryan Collins, Ivy Collins, and Melanie Rosenbalm; and great-grandchildren Henry Patterson, Brooks Patterson, and Gabrielle Lewallen.
