Paul S. Mc Dannell, 84, of Wilmington, DE passed away after a short battle with bone cancer on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Paul was born in Iron Springs, PA. He came to Wilmington at the age of 17 where he met and married the love of his life, Phyllis Denges. Together they built a family and a happy life, full of love. Paul was an exemplary husband, father, and devoted friend. They truly broke the mold when they made him. He was well traveled, loved country and bluegrass music, enjoyed music festivals, and time spent at the beach with his family.
He received his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Widener University, the first in his family to obtain a college degree. Paul retired as a Captain from the Wilmington Police Department after 20 years. He spent another 16 years in security for the DuPont Company. He was a member of the Wilmington Association of Retired Policemen and St. John the Beloved Church.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Alice (Wales) and Samuel McDannell, brothers, William and Leonard McDannell: his granddaughter, Kaitlin Rose McDannell and his great grandson, Theodore Paul Cannon.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Phyllis (Denges) McDannell; his daughters, Veronica M. Carpenter of King of Prussia, PA and Jennifer Rose McDannell (Becky) of Mt. Dora, FL; his son, M. Phillip McDannell of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Paul, III, Sarah Cannon (Kevin), Veronica (Zac), Justin (Sophia) and Megan Rivera (Matt); his great-granddaughter, Novalee; his sister, Hilda Church and his sister-in-laws, Deborah Wilkinson (Gary) of Elsmere, and Annie McDannell of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 from 10 to 11 AM. A service will begin at 11 AM. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
