Pauline Blackston Newsome

Pauline Blackston Newsome, 93, of Dothan, AL and formerly of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully early Thursday morning on July 6, 2023, at the Extendicare Center in Dothan, AL with her family by her side.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am EDT on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL with Rev. Mark Redmond, and Rev. Scott Wyatt officiating. A private interment will follow at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Phenix City.
Ms. Newsome, born February 16, 1930, in Mauk, GA, was the daughter of the late Moley Blackston and Missouri Pike Blackston. As a young lady, she was proud to have worked as a nurse's aide for Cobb Memorial Hospital in Phenix City for several years. She also was employed with W T Grant and worked with Hancock's Fabrics. Ms. Newsome was instrumental in starting the three-year-old kindergarten program at Philadelphia Baptist Church where she was a teacher. She enjoyed working with the Meals on Wheels program in the local community along with helping support meals for the needs of the church and other activities. But her greatest joy was for the love of children, especially spending time with her family, and sharing stories and memories with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Smiths Station.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Horace Newsome, Sr.; a son, Richard Horace Newsome, Jr.; a daughter, Margaret Newsome; two sisters, and four brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Jane Redmond and husband, Rev. Mark Redmond; daughter-in-law, Vivie Newsome; six grandchildren, Shannon Bryant (Tina), Chris Newsome (Shannon), Rochelle Wyatt (Scott), Mandy Word (Nathan), Seth Redmond (Michele), and Josh Newsome (Deana); sixteen great-grandchildren, Sean Bryant, Erica Bender (Johnathan), Miranda Newsome, Xan Newsome, Ezree Newsome, Lowell Newsome, Jayden Wyatt, Paisley Wyatt, Bryson Word, Adeline Word, Cheyanne Redmond, Molli Redmond, Izabella Redmond, Eli Newsome, Lilly Newsome, and Alainah Newsome, two precious great-great-grandsons, Easton and Colton, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
