Prudence (Pru) "Tootie" Fabricand, aged 100, of
Palm Harbor, Florida, passed away on July 14, 2023. Born on December 26, 1922, in
Springfield, Massachusetts, she led a fulfilling life, filled with cherished moments and meaningful connections. She was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, and a loyal friend. Her warm and gentle spirit touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
Raised on Long Island (New York), she attended Northfield Mt. Herman in
Gill, Massachusetts. She had an early career as a phlebotomist at Columbia Presbyterian in Manhattan, where she drew the blood of notable celebrities like Herbert Hoover and Lowell Thomas. She then married and moved to Dobbs Ferry, New York to raise her two daughters. Never one to sit still, she was involved in several women's clubs, the Girl Scouts, and played bridge at least once a week! For over 20 years she was a faithful member of Zion Episcopal Church in Dobbs Ferry and served on the altar guild there.
It was while living in Dobbs Ferry that she began her dream job as a travel agent, a career she continued when she moved to
Clearwater, Florida in 1975. Her work as a Travel Counselor for AAA allowed her to pursue her true passion: travel-and she ventured all over the world. She was even one of the first American tourists to go to China when they opened to foreign tourism in late 1970's. Pru's adventurous spirit and love for discovering new cultures inspired those around her, and her expertise in travel-planning brought great joy to countless individuals and families.
In retirement, Pru enjoyed many hobbies. She whole-heartedly believed that staying "young" was all about keeping busy and doing something with friends or family every day. Even into her 90's, she continued to explore her genealogy roots, play bridge, was a member of a book club and played the organ. She went to church and Bible study at St. John's Episcopal Church in Clearwater and served on the altar guild and adored her time each week volunteering at the thrift shop with her dearest friends. It was at St. John's that she enjoyed her 100th birthday party last December.
Pru was one of the first residents of Imperial Cove in
Clearwater, Florida, where she lived for over 40 years before moving to St. Mark Village (Palm Harbor) last year. Her family would like to thank all her wonderful neighbors and old friends at Imperial Cove and her new friends and the staff at St. Mark for their friendship and many kindnesses over her many years of life.
"Tootie," as she was called by her grandchildren, was also a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Nicole Fabricand-Person (Conrad Person) and Lori Fabricand (Marc Remmen); her grandson, Hannibal Person MD, her granddaughter, Halcyon Person (Dave Nuss), and her brand-new great-grandson Cassius Person-Nuss. She was preceded in death by her sister, Candace Montgomery Ogilvie and nephew, Scott Ogilvie.
Pru did not wish to have a funeral. Instead, a Celebration of Life Memorial Service is planned for the fall. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, love for adventure, and commitment to others will forever be treasured.
