Mr. Richard William Vickers, 71, of Hogansville, formerly of 
Newnan, GA, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025, at his home. He was born November 7, 1953, in Columbus, OH, to Ronald Vickers and Patricia Byrne Vickers.
Rich grew up in Dolton, IL, where he graduated from Thornridge High School in 1970. He continued his education at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, where he played football, was a Beta Omega Sigma fraternity member, and graduated with a B.A. in business. Following graduation, Rich started his adventures working on a fishing boat off the coast of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. He then worked cutting cedar shakes in the Olympic Peninsula in western Washington state. Rich returned to the Midwest, working in the Rock Island area until he moved to Atlanta, where he began his thirty-seven-year career as an equipment rental rep working for Caledonia Tractor. Rich worked for a variety of equipment companies until his retirement in 2022. Rich met his wife, Kathie Schroeder, in Atlanta in 1986. They were married in Tipton, Iowa, on August 8, 1987. Following their marriage, Rich and Kathie moved to 
Newnan, Georgia.
Rich enjoyed the outdoors throughout his life, whether hunting, fishing, boating, or hiking. He and Kathie were working on their travel bucket list before he became ill, enjoying a World War I and II battlefields tour, a Viking River cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest, a safari in Kenya, and lengthy tours of Australia and New Zealand, Israel, Jordan, and Egypt, and the Greek Isles. They were planning a tour to southeast Asia before he passed. Rich enjoyed going on several music cruises featuring blues and country artists.
The service for Rich will be held in the chapel at McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory, 38 Jackson Street, 
Newnan, GA, on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 4 P.M., with visitation from 3-4 P.M.
Rather than flowers the family requests memorial contributions to The Andrew Page Pancreas Fund, 
PanCAN (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network) or your chosen charity, foundation or institution.

Morris, IL; brother-in-law and sister in law, Rusty and Jody Schroeder of Mechanicsville, IA; grandchildren, Rachel Rose, Rylie Rose and Weston Rose of Anderson Creek, NC and Bellamy Vickers of Chamblee, GA; nieces Alyse (Nate) Ritches of Nashville, TN, Maddie (Trey) Lemburg of Tipton, IA; nephews, Garrette (Keegan) Vickers of Rockford, IL, Tyler (Nicole) Schroeder of Farmers Branch, TX; great nieces Addi and Harper Lemburg of Tipton, IA, Mauve Schroeder of Farmers Branch, TX, Vada Vickers of Rockford, IL; great nephews Cale Lemburg of Tipton, IA, and Ronin Vickers of Rockford, IL.
