Robert Lee Mobbs, 94, fourth child of Benjamin and Gladys Mobbs, died on Saturday, May 6, 2023, peacefully at his home in Johnson, VT with his family by his side.
Robert "Bob" was born February 28, 1929, in Essex Junction. He attended schools in Essex Junction and Essex Center.
His heart was always in farming and enjoyed/loved the opportunities he had working on other farms. After school he would bike to local farms in the Essex area for farming work.
In 1948 he met the life long love his wife, Gloria Griswold. They were married on September 10, 1949, at the Nazarene Church in Johnson.
Robert and Gloria lived in Randolph and Grand Isle until they bought their farm in Jericho Center in 1960. While living in Jericho Center he worked for construction companies until retirement. Often when in the car he would tell the family "he helped put up that building".
In 1987, Robert and Gloria bought a place in Florida and spent winters there until 2017. Winters away from the Vermont cold allowed them to enjoy their Florida families.
They both took trips to Hawaii, out West, St Louis and did a bit of camping. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Retirement also including moving to Johnson where family was and renovating 2 houses. One of the houses they did extensive remodeling and called home.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria, of almost 74 years, and two daughters; Gail Hall and Susan Butts (Neil). Predeceased children. Michael, Donald & Patricia Mobbs. Grandchildren, great grandchildren, 2 brothers, 1 sister, nieces, nephews.
The family would like to thank the many skilled staff of Lamoille Home Health and Hospice. Donations can be made in Robert's name to Lamoille Home Health and Hospice, 54 Farr Ave, Morrisville, VT 05661.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023, between 3:00pm and 5:00pm, at Gifford Funeral Home, 22 Depot Street, Richmond, VT. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
