Robert Lee Valdez, age 72, born in Durango, Colorado and a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on May 15, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Robert is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Irene Valdez; children, Sharon Valdez and husband, Angel Rodriguez, Sheila Garris and husband, John Garris; sister, Linda Valdez; grandchildren, Destiny Valdez, Desiree Wessell, Raena Rodriguez, Christian Garris, Zachary Garris, Madison Garris; great-grandchildren, Jude Paul Jaramillo, Esmeree Wessell, Everett Garris, Garrett Garris; Godchildren, Ricky Ortega and Raena Rodriguez, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Matilda Montoya; father, Jose P. Valdez; mother, Priscilla Valdez, and sister, Debra Nunez. Robert was a diehard 49er fan who enjoyed fishing, camping, and making beef jerky. One of his hobbies was tying fishing flies. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. lead by the Legion of Mary. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church 5415 Fortuna Rd NW on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow the services at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery 2957 Arenal Rd. SW. A Reception to follow after the services at the Abundant Life Christian School, in the gym, located at 2851 Arenal Rd SW, Albuquerque, NM 87121. Pallbearers will be, Angel Rodriguez, John Garris, Christian Garris, Zachary Garris, Ricky Ortega, and Geno Martinez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Destiny Valdez, Desiree Wessell, Madison Garris, and Raena Rodriguez.
