Age 88 passed away unexpectedly Saturday October 19, 2024, at her residence in the Carillon Lakes community of Crest Hill, formerly of Romeoville and Chicago. Ruby was a very active member of her community, she retired in 2002 as an Executive Secretary for the Valley View District after 36 years of service, and past president of the Secretaries Union. As a long-time member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Romeoville, Ruby was a CCD Instructor, a classroom teachers' aide, President of St. Vincent DePaul, music ministry English and Spanish choir director. Over the years, Ruby was also a Cantor for many funeral masses, weddings, and quinceaneras. In her spare time Ruby enjoyed reading, traveling, crafts, dancing, and all things family. She is survived by her companion and dear friend Jim Piechowiak; children Karen (Michael) Benik, and Brett (Joanne) Lee; grandchildren Natalie (partner Scott Brockman) Benik, Cynthia Benik, Frank Benik, Brett Lee, Brandon Lee, and Austin Lee. Siblings Laurie (the late David) Hernandez, Arthur (Mary Ann) Campos, and Phillip (Jean) Campos, numerous nieces, and nephews, also survived by partner to her late sister Linda Melnyczuk is Dave Barrett. Also preceded in death by her husband Frank D. Lee, parents Lawrence and Irene Campos, sister Yolanda Dorado and an infant brother Lawrence Campos.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 to 7 pm at Anderson Memorial Home, 21131 W. Renwick Rd., Plainfield, IL 60544. Funeral Monday October28, 2024, 9:15 am from the funeral home chapel to St. Andrew the Apostle Parish for a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville.
