Richard Henry Zeisel passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025. He was born in Chicago on January 24, 1934, to Henry and Martha Zeisel. He was the second of four children. He participated in gymnastics and swimming as a young man and graduated from Bowen High School in 1952. Following high school, Richard attended community college for three years studying mechanical engineering. In 1955, he enlisted in the US Army and served as a member of the 557th Field Artillery Missile Battalion during peace time in Ansbach Germany. He did earn a commendation as a sharpshooter. Richard was honorably discharged in 1957.
Following his service in the military, Richard began working for Commonwealth Edison Company. Also, at that time he met the love of his life, Catherine Dolores Parker. The two were married September 9, 1961, at Saint Symphorosa Church in Chicago. They would be blessed with 64 years of happiness, three children, four grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Richard spent 35 years working at Commonwealth Edison first as a meter reader, then lineman, and finally a dispatcher until he retired. Wednesday nights, he could be found bowling at the Hillside Bowl with his Commonwealth Edison coworkers. After retirement, he picked up a part-time job at the Winfield Flower Shop. He enjoyed delivering flowers and putting a smile on people's faces.
Richard was an active member of Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Romeoville as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Knights of Columbus. For many years, he delivered Meals on Wheels in the Romeoville area. He was also a member of the Golden Agers Club of Romeoville. He called bingo, went on casino trips, and participated in the Senior Olympic events of shuffleboard, mini golf and free throw shooting. Richard also enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles as well as SuDoku. He rooted for Notre Dame football and was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks.
Richard is preceded in death by his loving wife Catherine Dolores, his parents Henry and Martha Zeisel, his sister Dolores (Anthony) Lewandowski, brother Daniel (Winifred) Zeisel, and his brother Robert (Barbara) Zeisel.
Richard is survived by his daughter Gwen (Bryon) Johnson, son Henry (Susan) Zeisel, and daughter Sharon (Thomas) Venchus. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Luke Venchus, Amanda Zeisel, Martha Davchev and Kelly Zeisel, as well as his great granddaughter Leona Davchev.
A big thanks to the staff of Three Oaks Hospice and the loving staff at Clarendale of Addison Assisted Living Facility, especially nurses James and Shay, and CNA Maria for the comfort and care they provided to Richard.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday October 29, 2025, from 3–8 PM at Anderson-Goodale Memorial Home, 21131 West Renwick Road, 
Plainfield, IL 60544.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday October 30, 2025, at 10 AM at Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish, 505 Kingston Drive, 
Romeoville, IL 60446. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in 
Romeoville, Illinois.
