Sharon Dorough Obituary

Visit the Lane Funeral Home - Chattanooga website to view the full obituary.
Sharon Brittain Dorough, 67, of Signal Mountain, Tenn. passed away Thurs., Oct. 30, 2025. She was born and raised in Hokes Bluff, Alabama and was a member of its 1977 graduating class. She was an alumna of The University of Alabama and a faithful member of Signal Crest United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Edna Brittain. Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Byron Dorough; siblings: Lee Ann McAninch (Ernie), Nanette Tolleson, Kathy Pittenger (Bill), Gary Brittain (Donna), Suzette Tommie (Glenn), Mark Brittain (Rhonda); in-laws Marti Wayland (Bill) and Grant Dorough (Melody); and a kaleidoscope of nieces, nephews and grand-niblings-all of whom would argue they were her favorite.

Sharon's daily life was devoted to volunteer work with the national and local chapters of the Arthritis Foundation and Camp M.A.S.H., Music and Arts Week at Camp Sumatanga, the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, Lone Oak Community Center and Fire Department, and Signal Crest UMC. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, puzzling, and spending time with her siblings playing games and cards. She spoiled her nieces and nephews with summers filled with trips to discovery museums, zoos and aquariums, episodes of Fraggle Rock, and the best toy closet. Sharon had a beautiful singing voice, and showed up for all of life's big moments like graduations, weddings, birthday parties, and baby showers.

She was the queen of decorative sugar cookies and gifted the perfect Hallmark Christmas ornaments. She loved ice cream, Byron's steak, the Oakwood BBQ full rack, but most especially Dr Pepper. Sharon spent her life helping others and making them feel loved-now it's time for her loved ones to continue that light.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 11 a.m. on Sat., Nov. 8, 2025 at Signal Crest United Methodist Church. Rev. Bill Thornton and Rev. Dave Graybeal will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Lone Oak Volunteer Fire Department.
