Sotero Luera, Jr.
July 2, 1946 ~ January 22, 2024
Sotero Luera, Jr., age 77, of Wharton, Texas passed away suddenly January 22, 2024, at a Sugar Land hospital. He was born on July 2, 1946, in New Gulf, Texas to the late Sotero and Pilar Montelongo Luera.
Sotero was raised in the New Gulf area and graduated from Boling High School in 1964. He later attended Wharton County Junior College. On August 28, 1965, he married Josie Sepeda in Wharton. Sotero worked for Texas Gulf for many years. After the company left, he worked for El Campo Aluminum and later Nanya plastics. He enjoyed playing golf, BBqing for family and friends, going on rides around town, and spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dario Luera.
He is survived by his wife, Josie Luera of New Gulf, sons, Mike Luera and wife, Jessica of Bay City, David Luera and wife, Katy of Jones Creek and Sotero Luera, III and wife, Gina of Bay City, daughters, Melissa Munoz and husband, Joe of Wharton, and Cheryl Hooper and husband, Tim of Wharton, brother, Henry Luera and sister, Mary Helen Rodriguez, grandchildren,Michael, Sean, Cameron, Leslie, Meagan, Christofer, Angel, Aaron, Brittnee, Alissa, David, Jr., Ryan, Chase, Joseph, Gabriel, Brea-Ann, Sebastian, Kaitlyn, Cheyenne and Mason along with 22 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 after 5pm at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 7pm. The Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church at 2pm. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorail Park Cemetery. Servicing as pallbearers are David Luera, Joe Munoz, Jr., Mason Hooper, Sean Luera, Michael Luera, Mike Luera, Sotero Luera, III and Chrisrtofer Luera.
Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
