Susan Marie Cunningham made a grand entrance to heaven on May 3, 2022. She was born 76 years ago on March 9, 1946. She was born in Houma and lived a majority of her life there - a town that she so loved. She lived her final years in an apartment that was once part of her elementary school - Houma Elementary.
Visitation will be Monday May 9, 6:00pm-8:00pm at Samart Funeral Home on West Park. Family may view at 5:00pm. Visitation will also be on Tuesday May 10, 9:00am-11:00am with a celebration of her life at 11:00am. Burial will be following at Magnolia Cemetery.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sally Buckland and husband Richard Sr, and Rebecca Krider; 5 loving grandchildren, Kristen Fleming and husband Josh, Nicholas Smith and wife Britney, Richard Buckland Jr. and wife Justine, Hunter Buckland, and Victoria Buckland; 5 great-grandchildren that she absolutely adored, Madisyn Smith, Colton Fleming, Anniston Buckland, Eloise Smith and Richard Buckland III. We will miss her everyday until we are with her again.
She was preceded in death by her mother Mildred St. Pierre Bourgoyne and her son-in-law Clay Krider. We know they were waiting on her and are enjoying their reunion.
Susan was a one of a kind lady. She will be remembered as a loving mom and grandmother that was always so proud of her family. She loved with an intensity that we can all strive to model. If she liked you, there was nothing she would not do for you. She loved to cook and feed everyone around her. She made the absolute best pralines in the world and everyone knew it. She never backed down from anything, She spoke her mind and told the truth as she saw it.
The family would like to thank her nurses Harold, Tyler and Barbara in the CCU of Terrebonne Medical Health Center. When it became apparent that she was nearing the end of her life here on Earth, they gave her and the family such compassion and we will never forget it.
