William Grant, 87, passed away at his home at Canadian Lakes on Friday, August 26,2022. Bill as he was lovingly known to his family and friends was born on January 29, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late James and Sarah (Sadie) Grant. Bill graduated from Denby High School in Detroit and went on to attend Wayne State, earning his Bachelor's degree in history from Adrian, and his Masters and Specialist degrees from Eastern Michigan. After serving his country in the army he taught at Kern in East Detroit and then became part of a family business in Center Line.
Bill was an athlete in college and played semi-pro football for the Pontiac Arrows after graduation. As a loving father he enjoyed going to his sons various games and tried to make as many as he could. He loved the game of golf and was a member of Great Oaks Country Club spending many wonderful times on the golf course and on trips with his sons and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara (Bobbi), his two boys Matthew (Colleen) and Mark and his grandchildren, Jordyn, Hannah, Cate, Michael and step grandson Parker. He was the brother of Sally Barr and brother- in- law Roger Barr and sister- in- law Heather Irvine and brother- in- law to the late Paul Irvine. He was Uncle Bill to many nieces and nephews who have fond memories of their youth with him.
Family will receive friends at A.J. Desmond and Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd., Troy, MI. on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 5-8 PM. (248) 362-2500
Burial with military honors on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 9:00 AM at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI.
In lieu of flowers memorials may to sent to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Shriners Hospital, or to the charity of your choice.
