Wylie Maxine Hayes Riggs

Wylie Maxine Hayes Riggs, 96 years old, from Lenoir City, TN (formerly from Parsons, TN) went to her heavenly home on Friday, October 6, 2023. Maxine, the second daughter of the late Wylie McKinley Hayes and Maggie Ruth Moore Hayes, was born on July 26, 1927. She is survived by four daughters: Sherry Riggs of Mobile, AL; Iris (Randy) Tolley of Lenoir City, TN; Linda (Jerry) Butler of Gainesville, GA; Beverly (Randall) Miller of Lebanon, TN; two sisters: Eloise Shelby of Salem, IN and Betty Mangrum of Lexington, TN; two brothers: Vester Hayes and Max (Donna) Hayes both of Parsons, TN; eleven grandchildren: Kenneth and Kevin (Megan) Reigle, Katie (Arron) Horn, Amelia Bower, Sherree Riggs, Timothy Riggs, Cecelia (Matt) Clegg, Aimee (Ron) Wade, Samuel (Celina) Butler, Jeffrey (Adrian) Miller and John (Megan) Miller; and 29 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Sybern Washington Riggs; daughter, Janice Reigle; and sister, Doris Higdon.
Maxine grew up in the Bunches Chapel area of Decatur County on a farm working the fields and garden and cutting firewood and spent her married life in the Busseltown area of the county on a farm. After Sybern's death, she moved to Lenoir City, TN. She was a member of Hickory Valley Baptist Church in Friendsville and a member of Priscilla Sunday School Class.
Maxine dedicated her life to making a welcoming home, raising her daughters and was an expert seamstress, avid gardener, award winning quilter and an excellent cook. The love of gospel music was instilled in her at an early age and she enjoyed playing the piano, singing in the choir and ringing handbells. Her favorite hobbies were crocheting and counted cross-stitch.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 9, 2023 from 4 until 6 p.m. est at Click Funeral Home, 109 South Walnut Street, in Lenoir City, TN. Funeral services will be immediately following with Rev. Charles Carpenter officiating. A second visitation will be on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. cst at Hopewell Baptist Church, 1529 Mouse Tail Road, Parsons, TN. A service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with Rev. Don Franks officiating. Interment will be in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
