DEANA SCOTT Obituary

Deana Hope Scott 1925 ~ 2009 Deana Hope Scott was born August 25, 1925 in Spring City, Utah, to Rudolph Hope and Crystal Christofferson Hope. She has two sisters, Arlea Howell and Carolyn Johnson, and one brother, David. She married Douglas W. Scott on September 10, 1947, and they were blessed with three sons, Wally (Jenifer); Brent (Joyce); and John (Mary). She was raised in Spring City, attended Spring City Elementary School, and North Sanpete High School. She was very proud of her Sanpete heritage, and her pioneer predecessors. She was involved in the Friends of Historic Spring City, and was anxious that the Elementary School, as well as the other historic structures in the town, along with their histories, not be forgotten. She was a working mom, and was proud of her contribution to the family. Dad was trying to start up a business early in their marriage, and she lent her full support. She spent most of her working career as a clerk in the federal court. She commented that it was at times fascinating, and at other times just the opposite. She said that she learned enough in the courtroom observing and listening to cases to have earned several college degrees. She and dad loved to travel. They had been to most of the 50 states, and many foreign countries. They enjoyed Europe, and especially Norway, where mom found several relatives. She made friends easily, and had many. Mom and dad were part of several dinner groups that had been getting together from the time they were all newlyweds until they reached the point that their health wouldn't allow it. Of all her accomplishments, she was most proud of her family. She enjoyed getting together with all the relatives any time she could. She looked forward to the holiday season, and it's many opportunities to get together with family. She particularly enjoyed the Christmas season, and started playing Christmas music in September every year. Deana is preceded in death by her husband, Doug, and her grandson Christian. She is survived by her sons and their spouses, 10 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren, her sisters Arlea and Carolyn, and brother David. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South. Friends and family may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m., and one hour prior to the services at the mortuary. Interment, Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery.

Sorry to hear about your mother's death. We remember her well when you lived on 1st Avenue and when our parents got together for their dinner club. She was a beautiful, cheerful, happy person. Best wishes to you all!

I enjoyed working with Deana at the federal court and also met Doug on several occasions. I was out of state at the time of her death and funeral. I sincerely hope that her family will find much comfort in wonderful memories, and assurance that this life is not the end.

John & Mary,

My heartfelt condolences to you both over the loss of you mother. I apologize for not being at the viewing or funeral and I am sure that I missed a spiritual, uplifting service.

I want you to know how much you both mean to me as friends. I thank Mary for all her kindnesses to Carol and being there for me when I needed someone to lean on. To John for supporting his wife as she provided comfort to Carol and me.

I know that this is probably not the right venue to share these feelings but I am certain your mother is proud of how kind, helpful, and considerate you are of others. This how she raised you to be.

Good luck and you will be in my prayers,

Calvert Cazier

Mixed emotions are streaming through my soul. I am so sad this lovely lady decided to take the ultimate journey. I am so very happy for Aunt Deana! I'll bet Uncle Doug is so happy to see her happy, beautiful soul. They are quite a great and marvalous couple. They made me feel like everything in the world was an adventure. There was nothing that they could not conquer or explore as best friends.

Thank-you so much Aunt Deana for making me feel like I belonged to a wonderful group of people. You always had a exciting, interesting story to tell, I could sit and listen to you for hours. Our history has adventurous tales!

I have often wondered when we came to SLC to visit you, then you could give us $20.00 and send us off down town to explore. "The Hansen Planatarium is just down the block, you could have lunch here, be back at 4:00 and we'll go to the circus. Goodness! Three little country bumpkins lose in the city? You were either courageous or you were trying to tell us to get lost. I've always wondered... We loved every minute of it! Thank-you.

You radiated self confidence and gave a little part of yourself to those you knew - it was like enjoying a piece of candy, sweet and comforting, without the trip to the dentist.

Wally, Brent and John..and families I am sorry for your loss... I know you will miss her so very much. You were greatly blessed for having such wonderful parents.

Stay together and enjoy the pieces of stories past... and the wonderful spirit given to you by your mom and dad... make new stories together.. together you can do anything! My sympathy and Love to you all!

Wally, sorry about your mom. She was such a 'classy' woman and I enjoyed talking with her whenever I had the chance. She will be missed by a lot of people - Judy

As a neighbor kid growing up on Canterbury Drive I spent many hours in the Scott home. Sister Scott always made me feel welcomed and loved; treating me as "one of her own". She had a warm sense of humor and loved to prod us into dating girls within the ward. "You guys are blind", she would often say. Plus there was the added benefit of a rather large stock of Pepsi products readily available.

I'll miss her yet I'm grateful she gave me so many sweet memories. Wally, Brent, and John, my deepest condolences on your loss. You were truly lucky to have such great parents.

Much love,
Drew Mumford
