I had the honor of working with Joe side by side for four years. He opened the door for me to enter pubic sesrvice and taught me that we all can do our part to make this world a better place. He was more than my boss....he was my friend and my mentor.
It's been several months without one of the most special person in my life. I want everyone to know that Joe loved public service and giving back to the community. He was the kindest and most loving man I know.
I will always miss him.

Thank you all very much for the kind words about my brother Joe. The love and support of all you kind people has given our family the strength we neded in these trying times. Joe loved serving his district and he loved the people. He loved his job. Some people grow up wanting to be a baseball player or an astronaut. Joe wanted to be a lawmaker. Joe wanted to make Texas history. You did brother! You reached the top! We will never forget you!
Love always,

During a Democratic primary race I was honured with Joe's endorsement. It was my honour to work the streets alongside Joe in his re-election where and his people's love was shown in his yard signs on streets resembled a Memorial Day celebration. I am most honoured in having met a fine young man whom our youth can call a hero. Lets rename 225 in his honour. Thank you Joe.

Joe represented my old neighborhood, the East End. He made us proud by the class he exhibited in every way. Joe will not be forgotten, and in order to help that, I would recommend that some state building, state park, or structure be named in his honor. God Bless You Joe.

The last time I have seen Joe in person - he was a passenger in a passing SUV which was driving down Commonwealth in the Montrose about to make a left turn on Westheimer. After hearing of the loss of another Tejano Democrat - Joe Moreno - I decided to locate an uncirculated photograph from the Art Car Museum where his dear friend Jessica Farrar held an Art and Politics Forum @ the Art Car Museum back in February 2004.
Joe posed with one of Mark Bradford's sculptures - which was a wheeled scorpion, and snapped a pic with Rep. Moreno in the background. Two of these pics were taped on the Montrose Patriot art vehicle during the recent Art Car Parade (Joe never rode in the parade - this was the last thing he would do if he ever decided to ride in one), and both pics (which I would consider as two relics from the 2005 Art Car Parade) will be donated to the Harris County Young Democrats and the Harris County Tejano Democrats as of this writing.
There is no other like Joe, and Jessica might be alone these days where her best friend is no longer with us.

To the family of State Rep. Joe Moreno.
The students and staff of Gallegos Elementary are deeply saddened by the loss of a great person. We had been his guest at the state capital the previous week, where he treated the 185 students, parents, teachers, and myself to a memorable time. He took the time to recognize us on the floor of the House, which made the students feel extra special. We will treasure the photos and special moments we had with him on that day.
God Bless you.

Dear Moreno Family,
I can't begin to imagine your pain. It's so crazy to imagine a world without Joe. He was a wonderful person, a wonderful friend. Joe and I became friends back in High School through our involvement with CYO. He was the kind of person that you just kind of became friends with instantly. He could make me laugh like no one else. Our birthdays were five days apart, and even when we hadn't talked in a while, the phone would ring somewhere around our birthdays, and we would catch up. He had a great memory, and it always seemed as if no time had passed. He was the kind of person that once you were his friend, you were always his friend. Joe lit up any room he entered. I can only imagine him now - sitting, surrounded by loved ones that had preceded him, filling the room with his joy and laughter.
Joe accomplished many things, and was proud of many things in his life. It was clear, though, that what he was most proud of was his family. You all will remain in my prayers.

On behalf of the Houston Police Patrolmen's Union/Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 109, our members express their deepest sympathy and extend their condolences to the family of Texas State Representative Joe Moreno.
Not only did our organization consider Joe as our representative, we also consider him to be a great friend and ally. Joe was instrumental in assisting us in passing legislation that not only benefited law enforcement officers locally but also helped public safety statewide.
There are many people that can speak of Joe highly and give him praise, but we are proud to speak of Joe warmly and fondly because he was our friend and ally in protecting the community and the citizens and constituents that he served.
To the friends and family of Joe Moreno, we all have a friend in Jesus. I give thanks to God that He gave us Joe to be our friend. May God bless Joe's soul and may he rest in peace and may his family be comforted in God's grace and mercy.

Moreno family, I just want to send my condolence to you and your love ones, I know that right now you hearts are hurting, at least we know that Joe is there in heaven sitting next to Lord, looking down and asking that your do not cry for him, for he is where he wants to be, he ask that you all put a smile on your face, for that is what he always did, he said, that one day you will all be together, I was once told that when I lost a brother, that he will always be with you and I belive it, it is hard, God don't want you to suffer, just hold on to the memories and you will be just fine.
Joe brought happeness to this world and those who can say that they knew him, I just wish that I had that chance, too get to know him better, May God Bless you and keep you right there next to him.

Honorable Joe Moreno was always willing and ready to help whoever asked. Even if your opinion wasn't the same as his, he was still respectful and would listen to you. I will never forget the time DeZavala Elem. wanted him to attend a ceremony and his schedule would not allot it. I called and asked again if they could adjust his schedule, even if he could attend for a short while? Many teachers, parents and happy students were very pleased when he attended the ceremony, greeted the audience and distributed pencils to the students. I also remember one evening when he came to the Denver Harbor Civic Club and made a donation for the scholarship fund. He was leaving the meeting early to make it to another meeting. He was a committed elected official. Another time the Tejano Assocation for Historical Preservation was trying to raise money to bring a guest speaker from the Chavez Foundation and I told him of our dilemma. He enlisted the help of Hon. Jessica Farrar and between the two of them in one afternoon, were able to accumulate donations for the airfare and the honarium fee. These are just a few of the stories where he did make a difference. His can do attitude with his winning smile brought the promise that he was working for a better future for our youth. His hand picked staff have always been courteous and very responsive to the public as well. He will be sorely missed. I am glad that my family and I have had the opportunity to know him personally. Our hearts and prayers go out to his valiant family who have always stood by him and supported him in his political endeavor. I am sorry that Hon. Joe Moreno did not have the luxury to grow old and die later in his years. We were touched by his gentleness, we will remember what he did for others and we will always remember his can do spirit. He will go down in the history books as a Texan who made a difference.

He was brilliant, charming, courteous, compassionate, concerned about ALL of his constituents, a shrewd opponent, everything that you would want an elected official to be.
He cared.

To Family and Friends of Rep. Moreno,
I was in Austin on May 1-2, 2005 to participate in the Texas Peace Officer Memorial, and had the honor of walking in and through the House and Senate Chambers. As I did, I snapped a few pictures to bring back to my kids. I was telling them about the huge picture of all the State Reps.. Early this morning I was up making a multimedia CD of the pics I took and placing them in a slide show on CD. The song I used for the background was a bagpipe version of Amazing Grace. Then I received a Breaking news update from the Statesman. I saw the picture and realized that I had just seen his picture on the the wall in the House Chambers. Fellow texans, I ask that you keep Rep. Moreno's family close to your heart in the coming days, and for one day to honor a fellow Texan, we forget that there are Republicans and Democrats and at times we don't always see eye to eye. However, at this time we do. RIP Rep. Moreno. Thank you for what you have done for the State of Texas.
