Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Arcand Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to troops in Afghanistan this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Elden D. Arcand US Army Private 1st Class. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

To the family of PFC. Elden D. Arcand:
As you may know, the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation has honored your loved one at its Memorial Day Sunday worship service (each year in May) … since the time of your fallen hero's ultimate sacrifice. We will continue to pay tribute to our nation's veterans … lest we ever forget!
Now we would like to honor you … as the next-of-kin … who have also paid a great price on the altar of liberty. On Sunday 29 September at 11:00 a.m. we will host a Gold Star Family Sunday.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship … as we pay tribute to your sacrifice. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain (Colonel-Retired) Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “By Dying, We Live.” The special music will be the husband/wife vocal/piano — Wickman Duo. Following the worship experience, your family is invited to attend a social time in our Fellowship Hall … with some light refreshments.
As this historic chapel has limited seating, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,

To the family of Pfc. Elden D. Arcand:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/286-7296) or email the office ([email protected]) and leave your name and contact information.
Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Saturday 25 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sunday, 26 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

Elden, I remember the day he was born, His Mom and I were roommates. When she came home with him, I was apprehensive about listening to him cry all night long. He didn’t! He was a wonderful child. A few months later Kelly, Elden and I moved out. We lost track of each other. Time went by. Then, I heard the news of Elden’s death in Iraq. I cried - I could only remember a chubby faced happy baby. I never knew him as an adult. Kelly, I know how much you loved him. I remember you wanted a photo of his little baby hands. He was loved and became a great man and he died too soon. I just barely knew you, but I will never forget you. Elden.

I was just thinking of you for some reason, I had not said anything to anyone that you were in my thoughts, and thats when my son asked who you were. He then asked if you were the one we released balloons for, and yes you were. I just had thought that was very odd how at the same time we both thought of you!! Your brothers and sister are so awesome and your mom is the strongest person I have ever known. I am so glad to be able to call you my cousin, and you will forever be in my heart.

My brother in arms,
me, Dixon, Burchette, and Dearing still talk about you, how you could toss a football further than anyone, how you made us laugh any time, any day. I remember chasing down a camel spider for an hour in the middle of the night together, man you were terrified! lol I cherish the memories we shared. You were always there for me, and you forever live in my heart. To your family, my love is with them always. I miss you brother, I will toss back an Ice House for you tonight. Your brother always,

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Elden, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Hey Kid! I thought about you all week. it was the fourth of July! I have never in my life cried so hard when the star spangled banner played. I thought of you when the jets were doing the fly over at the F.L. parade, it gave me chills. you were there with me. Every day I think of you and how you died for my freedom, how you shed your blood for me to be safe. I thank you kid with the bottom of my heart. I miss you every day more and more but your with GOD watching over me! I will never forget what you did for me! I love you!!!

To the family of Pfc. Elden D. Arcand:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Memorial Day Sunday worship service at 11:00 a.m. on 27 May, 2007. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the neighboring states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain, LTC Kenneth L. Beale, Jr. will preach a message entitled “Remembering” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and place poppies at each of the crosses. An honor guard squad will be on hand to fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played.
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (612/970-7866) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans’ name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,

PFC Arcand was in my squad. He was a great soldier. We lost him entirely too soon. He brightened my days. We worked side by side many afternoons in the hot Iraq sun. He had a rocket of an arm on him. All of those college football teams in MN missed out, but our platoon got to enjoy it and his sense of humor and company. My heart goes out to his family and all of his friends.

I was in shock to find out last week of Elden's death. I worked with him at Menards in Forest Lake, he was a very funny and kind person. I’m glad I had the chance to get to know him, you raised a very goodhearted man. He will be missed but never forgotten. My deepest condolences are with the entire Arcand family and especially to Kelly and David. These are hard times, but remember that Elden will always be in our presence and in our hearts.

To Elden's Family. I learned of Elden's death by accident. My great Grandparents had settled in White Bear Lake and I had a great aunt, Lottie (Charlotte Bruce) who married Cyril Arcand. If Elden was part of that big family, I am sorry I didn't know that he was stationed at Ft Carson. We live in Denver and I would have been proud to have him and his friends either up here for dinner or taken them to dinner in Colorado Springs. I grieve at your loss. May God be with you till you meet again. Thank you for raising such a man to want to help others.

Dave, I am truly sorry to hear about your son Elden. I just found out on Sunday and words cannot express the pain I feel for you. I am glad that I got to spend some time with him before he was deployed. Do you remember where we brought him? That was a very fun night and I know Elden enjoyed it. And again I just wanted to let you know you are in my families thoughts and prayers as I also have two sons and don't know what I would do if this happened to either one of them. Stay strong and know that you will see him again one day.

Words can never fully express the extreme sorrow I feel whenever one of our brave military persons is lost in combat. And I think other Americans will agree with me here. Our service people are the very best of the best. The make us proud and a loss of one of them affects all Americans!
May G*d send the Comforting Angel to your family and may the rest of these United States be reminded that the price of freedom is NOT free!
All gave some but some gave all!

We can not express how sorry we are for the loss of your son. We can only imagine how proud you must be, to have a son so brave as to sacrifice himself for his country, and for "OUR" freedom. We thank him for this. I'm having a hard time knowing what to say to comfort you right now, so I hope you can find comfort in the Lord, and trust he will help you through this. Your family will be forever in our prayers, and know we are forever greatful for your son, our Minnesota hero. May peace and love be with you all.

Elden, My dear, sweet, loving son. I miss you greatly. My heart is breaking so much only God can relieve the pain and the great void that has been left by your leaving this earth and going home to heaven. I am happy for you and the freedom you are experiencing in heaven right this minute. You have been filled with the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ and now all your voids are filled. You are at peace for the first time in your life. You have a place where you belong and are free to love everyone. My heart sings for your life in heaven. My comfort is that I too someday will come home to heaven and I will be able to spend eternity with you. The day you died a piece of me died too!!!!! Right now I feel sort of lost without you. My mind has a hard time processing the fact that I will not hear your voice, see your beautiful face and smile. Hear the sound of your laughter. Watching you run around and play in the pool. Play catch with Danny. Drive your Silver Monte Carlo into the driveway. Besides all the dreams that die with you. Watching you get married. Seeing your children. Etc.. I love you so very much. I will never stop missing you. My Beldie Boo
