Vince Banonis Obituary
The Lions said Monday that the standout two-way player died Saturday at Providence Hospital in Southfield. The team didn't announce a cause of death.
Banonis was a star at the University of Detroit as a linebacker and center and was drafted in 1942 by the Chicago Cardinals. His sports career took a break while he served as a Navy lieutenant during World War II, but he was able to help Chicago win the 1947 title before his career with Detroit.
He retired after winning the second of two titles in Detroit. He was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1975 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1986.

I knew a Vince Banonis in Guadalajara Mex I don't know if he is the same, he was the trainer at the Hercules gym and I was one of his pupils if he is the same my condolences he really help me a lot in my training.

I had never heard of Vince Banonis until just last weekend when I found his football card from 1948 in the walls of my home (we live in a home in NH that was built in 1800 and we are in the process of renovating). I looked him up only to discover this obituary. It seems that Mr. Banonis was a great man and a passionate football player. My prayers and sympathy goes out to his friends and family. God bless you.
