Lonell Phillipp Daniels
March 23, 1946 - July 26, 2025
Dubuque, Iowa - Lonell Phillipp Daniels, 79, passed away on July 26, 2025, in Dubuque, Iowa.
Born Lonell Marlene Fritsche on March 23, 1946, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, she was the youngest child of William C. and Wanda L. (LaRocque) Fritsche.
Growing up, Lonell was an active member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien where she played the organ. After graduating from Prairie du Chien High School in 1964, Lonell moved to Chicago where she worked for Chicago Title and Trust Company. She returned to Prairie du Chien in 1967 where she married Reginald J. Phillipp at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. The couple welcomed their only child, Grant, the following year.
The family moved to Tacoma, Washington, in 1970. Lonell and Reginald divorced in 1971, and Lonell and Grant remained in Tacoma where Lonell worked at the Tacoma Housing Authority. Lonell retired from the Housing Authority as the Director of Leasing Services after a 30-year career.
For a decade after her retirement, Lonell and partner Richard C. Daniels spent their summers traveling the country in a motor home and their winters in Desert Hot Springs, California. She and Richard married in 2015. After Richard's death in 2017, Lonell relocated to Dubuque to be closer to her half-sister Lynda Standorf and her family.
Over the course of her life, Lonell took up many pastimes. When money was short, she sewed her own clothes. Her pies and other baked goods were always a welcome treat at get-togethers. She enjoyed country music and took up line dancing. Lonell was a fan of the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners, cheering them on through good times and bad. She worked hard and overcame much adversity, but always kept her love of laughter and her kindness toward others.
Lonell is survived by her son Grant, half-sister Lynda, niece Jodi Standorf, and nephews Jeffrey and Randy Standorf. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Zonnie and William, and husband Richard.
The family thanks Stonehill Communities for their care and compassion for Lonell during her final years.
