Francis R. Magleby

1928 ~ 2013
Francis R (Frank) Magleby passed away peacefully Tuesday December 17, 2013 surrounded by loved ones on both sides of the veil. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and he richly blessed the lives of all who knew him. Frank was born on March 22, 1928 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was the second son and third of four children of Zella Fausett and Rulon Talmage Magleby. His family moved to Portland, Oregon when he was six years old where he spent his teen age years and attended high school. Following high school he attended Brigham Young University on a football scholarship, earning a bachelors and Master's degree in art. From 1952-54 he served in the military as an army photographer stationed in Italy. Following his military service he attended the Art Students League in New York City and completed his education with a doctorate degree from the teachers college at Columbia University. While in New York he met his true love, Mildred Elizabeth Boise. They were married May 9, 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. In 1959 he joined the faculty at Brigham Young University where he taught for 35 years as a professor of art and had the opportunity to influence the lives of many students. Frank was a prolific painter throughout his career and he continued to paint up until the final weeks of his life. He has left behind a legacy of beautiful paintings that adorn the walls of many homes, offices, churches and LDS temples across the world. Perhaps the highlight for Frank as an artist was the opportunity to serve a mission as a painter for the church and to later lead a group of artists in creating the murals for the LDS temple in Nauvoo, IL.
Frank and his wife Middie raised their five children in Provo. They were his greatest source of pride and joy. He was described as someone that knew the value of time, people and beauty. He was never in a rush, ever! He just focused on helping people understand their importance and that they are loved. He was a great teacher and mentor to so many and through his example showed us how to live with quiet honor.
He is survived by his wife Middie, his five children Heather Behrmann, Eric Magleby, Holly Foutz, Hillary Morrow and Hans Magleby, his 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grand children.
Funeral services will be held Saturday the 21 of December 2013 at the Pleasant View LDS Chapel, 2445 N. 650 E., Provo, UT 84604. Viewing will be from 9:30 - 10:30 with the funeral beginning at 11:00. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at tributecenterutah.com.
