Jean Sperling Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 28, 2011.
Sperling Jean Evelyn Sperling passed away peacefully at Manitou Lodge in Watrous on February 22, 2011. She was born on September 6, 1927 on a farm in Balcarres Ituna district to Gertrude (nee Bratt) and Richard Gessey. There were eleven children in Jean's family: one brother, George Gessey and one sister, Gladys Todd; both in Regina are remaining. On leaving home at an early age, she was employed in several jobs in Regina before her marriage to Ben Sperling of Young, SK. They moved to a farm southwest of Young and later to a farm east of Watrous where they raised four children. In early years Mom stayed home to raise her children, garden and enjoy friends. In later years Jean and Ben bought the Walker Block and rented rooms and suites. Jean enjoyed numerous trips south and her greatest loves were BINGO and braiding RAG rugs for family and friends. Jean is survived by her family: Delores (David) Manson of Watrous, SK; Connie (Brian) Anderson of Nanaimo, BC; Rick (Shelley Credle) Sperling of Watrous, SK; Laurie Sperling of Young, SK; grandchildren: Rod, Scott and Bruce Manson, Mike and Dee Credle, great-grandchildren Ben, Rebecca, Daniel, Sarah and Errol Manson and Navaya Marie Back. At Jean's request there will be no funeral service. Interment and a private family service will be held at a later date. For those so wishing donations to Manitou Lodge Equipment and Furnishings Campaign c/o Watrous Community Health Foundation would be appreciated. A special thank you to all the staff at Watrous Manitou Lodge for their years of compassionate care and attention. Fotheringham McDougall Funeral Service of Watrous and Nokomis in care of arrangements.

Del, Connie, Rick and Laurie...

My deepest condolences on the loss of your mother. I have many happy memories of coming to visit the Sperling family in summers when I was young. I am hoping that your happy memories will sooth you in your time of grieving and that like myself, you have many pleasant memories of a loving mother.
Sincerely Marilyn Alexander
