I was a kid just graduated from university when I met Mike McKone. I was working with Jamaica's investment promotion agency at the time and was assigned to manage his itinerary of meetings with banks and companies during his mission to Jamaica. New to the role I was frankly very nervous and intimidated but then and today I am so grateful for this assignment. He was so gracious! There was no doubt in my mind despite our few days of interaction that he had a beautiful heart. He grieved the loss of his friends to the Vietnam War and carried a great weight of guilt that he hadn't gone with them. His sadness was balanced by an easy laugh, quick wit and an ease with relating to everyone he met. I learnt so much from Mike McKone. I was so saddened to learn from his precious daughter a few years ago about Mike's passing. How could that be? He passed the same year my dear mom passed and was interred the day after her birthday, our first without her! It's bittersweet the awareness of this synchronicity. They were similar spirits taken away the same year to higher service. I remembered Mike today this Veterans' Day - he was a brave soldier. May his soul rest in peace.

Mike joined GE-MAO (Valves) in the late 1970s and immediately became the life of the group. We all have fond memories of him. So sorry to hear of his passing...
