Harding Russell Obituary

Harding Mark Russell
Feb. 4, 1921 ~ Oct. 31, 2012
Delta, UT-Harding Mark Russell passed away Oct. 31, 2012 at age 91. Born Feb. 4, 1921 in a one room log cabin in Cedarview, UT to Mark A and Mercy Gertrude Blackburn Russell, 4th of 5 children. Graduated Granite High School, then earned BS degree from University of Utah in Mechanical Engineering in 1946. Fulfilled mission for LDS Church in New England Mission, 1946-1948, one of last missionaries to serve without purse or scrip. Married Dorothy May Starley in Manti Temple on August 17, 1950. They had three children.
Dad's career took him (and us!) to many places throughout the US. Worked in New Jersey, Alabama, and Illinois before moving to Delta, UT in 1978. He was proud he had traveled to all 50 states, plus Canada and Mexico. When living in Huntsville, Alabama; Dad worked as quality control engineer on Saturn V rocket that put men on the moon. He truly was a rocket scientist!
Upon moving to Delta, started 'Russell Refrigeration' and repaired appliances and refrigeration equipment throughout central Utah. Loved meeting people and had a gift for "fixing things". Grew a great garden every year, and loved giving away vegetables to friends and neighbors. Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling in their motor home, and spending time with family visiting kids and grandkids.
Faithful member of LDS Church and served the Lord throughout his life wherever he and Mom lived. Loved camping, fishing, and Scouting.
Harding joins his wife, Dorothy, who preceded him in death in 1997, and is survived by children: Mark (Jeri) Russell, Sandy; Diane (Steve) Anderson, Woods Cross; and Kent (Rozanne) Russell, Orem. Leaves 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Dad lamented the loss of his eyesight in last few years. How he was able to live on his own to almost the last has been an inspiration to us all. We express heartfelt thanks to all in Delta who befriended and looked after Dad. He had wonderful friends, neighbors and caregivers whose caring concern will not be forgotten. He loved all of you, as do we, for making his last years so memorable and comfortable. We also thank the staffs of Heritage Place and Utah Hospice Specialists who so kindly looked after Dad.
Funeral: Monday, Nov. 5, 2 PM, at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S Highland Dr, SLC. Viewings: Sunday evening, 6:30-7:30 PM at Nickle Mortuary, 190 S Center, Delta; and Monday, 12:30-1:40 PM, prior to service. Burial Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

Russell Family,

My grandmother, Jean, and uncle, Ernie, lived in Delta. I know Mr. Russell was a great blessing to the both of them. After my grandmother's passing, my daughter and I would visit him when we came there and he would tell us stories of the nice things he had done for her as they became good friends. Although, we didn't go to Delta often, he greeted us with open arms with each visit. I have a picture of him with my daughter and it warms my heart. He was a blessing to my family and helped each of us in his own certain way. I loved hearing his stories. I'm sorry to hear of his passing but am grateful he was able to join his eternal companion.

Dear Mark, Diane, Kent and Extended Family, I rejoice with you in our testimony of the Plan of Happiness made possible by our precious Savior and Dear Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Although there is no substitute for the physical presence and love of a Loved One, I pray your knowledge of t he gospel will be a source of peace and you will find the comforting influence of the Holy Spirit. I have such fond memories of our association in Rockford. He could fix anything! My thoughts and prayers are with you as we celebrate his good life and his happy reunion with loved ones in heaven. I send you my love and blessings.

I remember my father driving my brother every (early) morning to the Russels home to make cat collars to earn money for Scouting. I kept thinking I had no idea how any of them did it, as I know how hard it was for my family to function that early but somehow Brother Russell kept everyone going and I know he kept the program going for several years if I remember right. I soon found out about early mornings once I started early morning seminary. And I still look back and wonder how it all happened. I really admired him and Sister Russell as she became one of my most favorite MIA leaders and teachers. Heidi Williams
