We just found this on line when we were looking up Ron to see where he was. How sorry we were to read this. Ron was our realtor for many years and helped us make important decisions. We always looked to him as our voice of reason.
Over the many years we knew him, one thing we always knew was how much he loved his wife and family. May you always be comforted by the many memories you shared together. God bless Ron and his wonderful family.

Dad, it has been 3 months already. I am still in disbelief and it is hard for me to understand. I know most people don't talk about how proud they are of their parents, but I feel compelled to tell everyone how much you made of your life and the life you made for all of us. You taught us so much, and I am grateful to have had someone with so much experience and wisdom. I wish we could have had more time to soak up everything. Straight-forward, deliberate, gun-slinger who is beyond one of a kind with and I wouldn't have asked for anything different. Keep looking after us dad. Love you too much.

I just learned of Ron's passing. I knew Ron from going to the auto auctions. He took me under his wing and showed me what to do and what NOT to do, along with his quibs and really funny stories. One night he asked me, "hey Bob, go out there and look over this lincon i just bought for my son, tell me is its any good". We had this conection, you were a good friend Ron and I'll miss you. Thank you for being my friend. God Speed.

Ron McKay was like a father to me in many regards. Commensurate to a relationship like that, my life with Ron was filled with firsts.

When I was about 19 I was in the market for a new car. Ron had offered to help me get a good deal on one and I accepted. Our first trip was to the Ford dealership where I showed him the latest Saleen Mustang. While he was impressed with the car he insisted that I reconsider. This was due to the fact that he felt the car would depreciate too quickly. Ron was so persuasive that he even got the salesman to agree with him and with that we left.

A couple days later Ron and I were driving down Fairport road and we spotted a beautiful black Porsche for sale at one of the local dealers. I remember saying something to the affect, “Man that would be a nice car to drive”. With that Ron turned around, pulled into the lot and in a matter of minutes Ron was negotiating. Now let it be known that, one the price was too high and two, I had no idea how to drive a manual. Ron not only talked the guy down to the exact same price as the Mustang, but talked me into buying a car I couldn't drive!

Needless to say, I bought the car and my life would forever be changed. As many of you know I joined the Porsche club, raced at Watkins Glen several times, took home many trophies, and have even been coined by friends and online as Dr. Porsche. None of this would have been part of my life it wasn't for that one random day with Ron.

On a similar note Ron took me to my first auto auction. While not quite as profound as the Porsche purchase, I really enjoyed spending time with him there and learning “the ropes”. We went to several auto auctions around New York over the years, and I appreciated them all.

Ron sold me my first and, as of yet, only house. Missy and I were going to be married in June of 1996 and I was still living at home with my grandparents. Ron had recently acquired a house that was just around the corner and it was a beauty: 2300 square feet, double lot, new kitchen and backing up to a wooded “forever wild”. Ron worked out the paperwork, offered to hold the paper until we got on our feet and could refinance. With his help we had our own house to come home to after our honeymoon. To this day, nearly 16 years later, my wife, three children and I live there still.
Of course this list wouldn't be complete without mentioning that Ron also was with me when I purchased my very first gun, a beautiful black Remington 870. It should come as no surprise to those of you that knew Ron that he had to try and chisel the guy down, to save me a few bucks, before the deal was done.

He helped me in countless ways and to try and tell them all would require far more space than this space would allow.
As an outsider reading this, maybe some of these things don't seem so out of the ordinary, but you would be wrong. Ron was my uncle, not my father or grandfather. So why did he do this much for me? I don't have an answer for that, but what makes this even more amazing to me is that I wasn't the only one. After meeting all the people at the funeral, hearing the stories from them I found I wasn't alone. My story was just one drop in the ocean of generosity that was Ron.

So Ron, to you I raise a glass of diet Coke in your honor. Thanks for all your love, friendship, and mentoring. I will miss your strong handshake, good advice, political commentary, and so much more. You were a great man and the universe will never be the same.

My deepest sympathies to you Irene and your entire family. Although I've known you many many years, I'm sorry that I never had the opportunity to know Ron as well. However from what time John and I did get to meet him and know him, he was a kind, lovely and humorous (oh so humorous) man and John enjoyed their conversation about motorcycles, cars and the good ole days as we all did over our burgers. We looked forward to going out for that nice motorcycle ride and I'm sorry we won't have that chance, and to drag Linda along with us to finally teach her how to ride that motorcycle she has. Ron will truly be missed Beanie!!!
