George W. Cochran Obituary

March 10, 1928-September 27, 2018

George W. Cochran, 90 of Murrayville, Ga., passed away Thursday September 27, 2018, at the Bell-Minor Nursing Home following a recent illness.

Mr. Cochran was born in Hall County on March 10, 1928, to the late Kater Lee Cochran and Elizabeth Pearl Green Cochran. Mr. Cochran retired after a long career with Parks Lumber Company and Builders Mart Corporation. He also built and renovated houses and properties for many years. He enjoyed gardening and growing vegetables for his family and friends far and wide. His greatest joy was planting, growing, picking and preparing corn, beans, squash, peas and tomatoes for anyone who wanted them. He also enjoyed restoring antique Ford cars as well. Mr. Cochran was a member of First Baptist Church, Gainesville, Ga. His love of gospel music was unsurpassed and he enjoyed singing with different choirs and groups through the years. He loved his breakfast and lunch groups until declining health prevented him from attending. He was a blessed, happy man, living with his wife Joyce until after suffering a debilitating stroke.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joyce Grant Cochran and their son, Reg Cochran and one brother, Henry Cochran, along with many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members.

Mr. Cochran is preceded in death by his siblings, Inez Cochran Sears, Charlie Cochran, Fannie Cochran Lee and Perino Cochran.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday October 2, 2018, in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. The Rev. Bruce Fields will officiate. Interment will follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Northeast Georgia Medical Center and The Bell-Minor Home for excellent care and concern during his illness. He was blessed with the care he received from both facilities.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 751 Green St., Gainesville, GA 30501 or Eagle Ranch, P.O. Box 7200, Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502.

Joyce, my thoughts and prayers are for comfort for you and Reg. But just knowing where he is you would not call him back. He is with Jesus, I know of no better place. You will see him again one day.

George was one of my earliest mentors in the Building Supply business at Parks Lumber Company in the 1970's. I was 17 and worked with he and Charles Parks in what became a long career in the lumber business. It is 47 years for me this year! George was a great teacher and a wonderful Christian man. He has always held a special place in my heart. Prayers and God's peace to his family in your loss of such a good and honorable man.
