It was Fort Dix NJ 1973. I was walking out of the barracks with my new Martin D-18 guitar when I heard someone playing guitar. Sitting in a chair at the end of the hallway with his little Harmony electric guitar was Keith Blake. He was amazing! Made me feel guilty having such an expensive guitar and not being able to play anything that sounded anywhere near as good as what was coming out of his little Harmony! I ended up being stationed at Ft. Hamilton in Brooklyn. He got out of the Army and moved to the Village. We hung out and played all over NY for the next two years! He had an amazing natural sense of rhythm and a beautiful spirit! We lost touch in the mid 80's. I have searched the Internet in vain until last night after watching the film "Rumble" on PBS which made me think of him. Scouring through photos of all the Keith Blakes suddenly there he was. I looked below the pic and it said obituary, my heart sunk! I always thought we would once again play together. Now he ran off to join the angel band. God willing we will play again someday my friend! - Gordon Acton (Pittsburgh)
