Eileen Flecha Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 11, 2001.
Business Before Voting
Eileen Flecha opted to be on time for work on Sept. 11, which is why she won the debate she had with her stepfather, who worked nearby on Wall Street, over whether they should vote in the mayoral primary that morning — his preference — or wait until after business hours. Ms. Flecha was a stickler for punctuality, and her job as a junior trader at Fiduciary Trust came first. So she got to the office early; they never made it to the polls.

Ms. Flecha, 33, lived in the Kew Gardens section of Queens with her mother and her stepfather, Robert Morris, and the family dog, Hannibal, a 102-pound bruiser. "Now every time he sees a green car pass the house, he thinks it's her," Mr. Morris said. "He misses her terribly." A Yankees fan and a horror-movie aficionado who collected scary videos, she was engaged to a co- worker, Ivan Perez. As a wedding present to themselves, they bought a home in Kew Gardens. As a surprise wedding present, Ms. Flecha's parents bought them enough furniture to feather the new nest. Now the house sits empty, the furniture remains in storage, and Mr. Perez is listed among the missing, too.

Eileen, when I visited the memorial for the first time, I took a single picture, and it was of yours and Ivan's names. They stuck in my mind and I thought of both of you every year. It wasn't until recently that I learned that you were engaged to him. The two of you existed together in my memory for all of those years before I had any clue that you had been a couple. Death has not part you.
My condolences to Eileen's family and friends. She is not forgotten.

Rest In Peace. Eileen. I want to believe in an afterlife so that there is something better for everyone that passes on. So that there is more to our existence than what happens in our short time on earth.

I was unable to watch the 9-11 ceremonies this year. I had to work. While I was standing in a subway tunnel enduring 90+ degree heat. I remembered you. You are not forgotten. I have to give your sis a call. God Bless you always.

I knew Eileen and her sister growing up in our teens. Great people. Eileen was my high school girl friend and she will be in my heart forever. You will always be apart of me. Love you and miss you.

Message to Eileen;

Dear Eileen,
Last year I had the privilege to visit New York with my wife and children again. The 9/11 Memorial was on top of our list. We took some pictures and on one of these pictures your name popped up. On the photo stream at home it is still showed. Running your name through the legacy.com site we learned about your life.
Eileen, we will honor you and all the other victims of this cruel act of terror for the rest of our lives. We will never forget you!! God bless all the families, relatives and friends of the deceased ones!!
New York was our honeymoon destination in 19994 and we feel connected to NY 4ever.
With our deepest respect,
The Scholte family from the Netherlands

I was lucky enough to call Eileen & Annie my friends. We always had so much fun whether we walked up Liberty Ave. or hung out listening to music. I truly treasure those memories and it saddens me deeply to know I will never see Eileen again. An Angel in life is now an Angel in Heaven!! God Bless you Eileen!!

Well It's the Tenth anniversary of that fateful day. I started to think about the days in the 80's at Lefferts Blvd. How you were just a teenage girl doing teen stuff. And then one day it's all over. Your life came to premature end. Life can be unfair and unpredictably short. I almost died myself last year. I had a heart- attack. It made me reflect on the mortality of man. Our time comes for us all. I just hope that you and all the other people didn't suffer much and are in a better place (heaven) now.

I watched the 9-11 ceremonies on TV today. I saw them read your name and show you picture. I started to wonder what you would have done in your life that you didn't get to do. If there would have been any reunions with your cousins Bianca and Gladys. God Bless.

The T.V.shows of the terrorist attack have more of an affect on me knowing that someone I had once known never came home that day.But then I remember when we saw "Dawn of the Dead" in the theatre that is no longer there. Listening to the Go-Go's and Men at work, playing Pac-man in the store and hanging out w/Bianca and your sister Anne. I wish there were a way to reverse that day, and bring all of those people back. God Bless you.

We are deeply sorry for your loss of Eileen and for the love of her life, Ivan Perez. Such a deep burning tragedy. May Eileen and Ivan's love and lives continue living in those who love them. May the wonderful memories of times together lighten the pain in your hearts. Our hearts cry with you for your loss.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
