On March 25, 2025, our beloved father, Miguel Angel Flecha, passed away at the age of 90. Born in Humacao, Puerto Rico to Salvador and Eufracia Flecha, he was one of 13 siblings raised on a 10-acre sugar cane farm. As a teen, he worked the fields and in a slaughterhouse before moving to the U.S. in his early twenties, eventually settling in Port Washington.
At 37, he met his future wife, Nelly Martinez, at a party in Rego Park, Queens. He worked as a cook during Port Washington's golden years, eventually becoming First Cook at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, where he retired after 30 years of perfect attendance.
He bought the house he'd rented for 20 years when his landlord, Mrs. Koch, left it to him in her will, contingent on him securing a mortgage. Miguel quit smoking when he married and gave up drinking at 70.
A man of few words, he deeply loved his wife and two sons, Michael and Marvin. His passions were Yankee baseball and cooking. He is survived by his children and three grandchildren: Michael Warren, Nicholas Stevens, and Maria Sophia Flecha.
We will forever miss you, Papi. You lived a humble, wholesome life-one many would admire. Rest in peace and be forever strong.
Visitation will be held at Roslyn Heights Funeral Home on Friday April 4th from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. Family and friends will gather at the Funeral Home on Saturday April 5th from 10-10:30AM. Interment to follow St. Charles Cemetery.
