Funeral service for Maj. Aubrey L. Carpenter, Jr. USAR (Ret) 89, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Rev. Kathy Carpenter. Services will be held in Danville, Kentucky on at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Stith Funeral Home, Danville, KY with burial to follow in Hustonville Cemetery, Hustonville, KY. Maj. Carpenter died Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Born in Meridian, Miss., he was a son of the late Aubrey L. Carpenter, Sr. and Sarah George Carpenter. After high school, Aubrey joined the United States Air Corps where he was a B-17 Pilot in Germany during WWII. He received his wings in 1944 and went on to join the Army National Guard in 1946 serving for 22 years until his retirement. Maj. Carpenter was a 1952 graduate of Centre College, Danville, KY. He received his CLU in Insurance, and retired as Vice President of Investors Heritage Life Insurance Company of the South in 1989. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Pearl Smith Carpenter; sons, Dennis W. Carpenter of Lexington, KY, Keith W. Carpenter of Corpus Christi, TX, Sam J. Yater of Hilton Head, SC; daughters, Tammy L. Carpenter and Sarah Elizabeth C. Carpenter both of Columbia; four grandchildren; brothers, George C. Carpenter (Carol) of Greensboro, NC, William L. Carpenter (Nell) of Chattanooga, TN; sister Gloria C. Prince of Sacramento, CA; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille C. Allen. The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Wildewood Downs and Palmetto Health Hospice for their kindness and loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, Wells Fargo, PO Box 602575, Charlotte NC 28260-2575or a charity of one's choice.
