Mabel Evans Tryon

Mabel Evans Tryon November 26, 1919 – December 7, 2013 Mabel was raised in Bristol, CT and attended Central Connecticut College. She met her husband to be, Chet, while vacationing with her girlfriends in Clinton. His dad owned a cottage there, and they spent the rest of their lives enjoying every summer at the shore making wonderful friends. They were married in 1941 and Chet built their home in Newington where they raised three children. They enjoyed many years of dancing at local landmarks like Lake Compounce during the Big Band Era. Unfortunately, Mabel contracted TB in her bones at a young age, before having children, and this is what led to all her health problems later in life. Mabel had a few part time jobs through the years, working for the S&H Green Stamps store and the cafeteria of the local school system. She later joined the Newington Women's Club, the Garden Club and the AARP. She enjoyed many activities and trips through them. She was a founding member of The United Methodist Church of Newington. Mabel and Chet enjoyed a Bermuda cruise to celebrate their 25th anniversary and a trip to Europe, visiting Germany and Greece, but most of their vacationing was in Clinton where Chet was an avid fisherman and lobsterman. Mabel enjoyed the local church fairs and raising her children with all of her neighbors. Mabel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by her three children; James Tryon and his wife Patty of Old Saybrook, Barbara Tryon and Terry Williamson of San Francisco, and Ruth Camarata and her husband Chet of Berlin, four grandchildren, Keith Tryon, Christine Reynolds and her husband Matt, Nick Camarata and Jill Camarata; and three great grandchildren, Delaney, Lily and Aedan. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Newington, 401 New Britain Ave. Burial will be held privately. Donations may be made to the United Methodist Church.
