Calvin Klinger Obituary

Calvin George Klinger of Comstock Township, Kalamazoo, MI Calvin, age 86, died Sunday morning, March 16, 2104 at the Heartland Health Care Center of Kalamazoo following a brief illness. Calvin, the son of Lewis and Pauline (Hirsch) Klinger, was born on June 15, 1927 in Kalamazoo and was a lifetime resident. He served his country honorably and nobly during World War II as a Sergeant with the United States Air Force with the 56th Air Base Group. Calvin retired in 1994 after 8 years of faithful service for Continental Linen of Kalamazoo. He was also an excellent carpenter and built numerous homes and remodeled existing ones in the area. Calvin enjoyed racing go-carts and building dune buggies for fun. Much time was spent at the cabin up north fishing and enjoying family time. Bowling was also a great love of his. As are a very close family, Dad will be greatly missed by all! Calvin was united in marriage to the former Dolores J. Douglass on November 22, 1950 in Kalamazoo and she sadly preceded him in death on October 29, 2005, after 55 years of marriage. Surviving are six daughters, Nancy J. Gibson of Mattawan, MI, Sharon D. (Barry) Sherman, Karen L. Thurman and Della M. Sullivan, all of Kalamazoo, Shirley J. (Michael) Frever of Richland, MI and Alice M. Klinger of Allegan, MI; his son, Scott C. (Kerrin) Klinger of Richland; twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael O. Klinger on September 16, 1986 and his brother, Edward Klinger. The Memorial Service to celebrate Calvin's life will be held on Friday, March 21st at 2:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89) with the Rev. Robert G. Muirhead, officiating. The United States Air Force from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will bestow military honors at the funeral home, where friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday. Private, family interment will be at Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions in Calvin's honor may be directed to the West Michigan Cancer Center, 200 North Park Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.

What a great neighbor we had in Kalamazoo and Paw Paw! Cal helped us with various projects in both places. We enjoyed Cal and Dee's company. Our deepest sympathy to the family!
