Jeanne Lillian Maksym Ph.D.

JEANNE MARY HURLEY MAKSYM, PhD Age 91 entered eternal life on February 11, 2017 surrounded by her children and beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Tippy. Dr. Maksym's life was devoted to three things: Her faith in the Catholic Church, her decades of inspirational instruction to hundreds of children, her student teachers & her family. Jeanne was a proud member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church where she regularly attended Mass. She never closed her eyes at night without saying the rosary and praying for those who needed help. Dr. Maksym was also an award-winning Kindergarten teacher for 58 years. Every child loved her and followed her to new heights and pathways to success. Scores of her students became the Valedictorians of their classes, but all embraced the magic of the written word and the power of imagination. Dr. Maksym is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony; her parents, Roy and Helen Hurley; and her siblings, Catherine, Jodie, Patricia, Joan and Edward. Jeanne is survived by her five children Helen Mary(Darryl)Hicks, Catherine(Paul)Townsend, Anne Marie(Al)McBrien, The Honorable John Maksym and Roy(Lynn)Maksym. Jeanne "Meme" is also survived by 20 grandchildren & 15 great grandchildren, sisters Mary Meyer & Sharon(Norman)Cure and many nieces and nephews. Visitation Thursday 3-9pm with 7:00pm Rosary at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile). Funeral Friday Instate 10:00am at St. Ambrose Church 15004 Hampton (Off Alter Rd. btw. Kercheval & Jefferson) until time of Mass at 11:00am. Donations are welcome to St. Ambrose Church.
