Helen Kilgore Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary North on May 15, 2017.
Helen Christine "Chris" Kilgore, age 84 of Bulverde, Texas passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017. Born Christine Gilbreath in Angelina County, Texas, she was later adopted at the age of two by James and Helen Halbert Moffeit of San Antonio, Texas. Chris graduated from San Antonio Vocational and Technical School (Fox Tech) in 1950 where she was a member of the marching band, playing the clarinet. In 1952, she began working at USAA using her business skills she acquired in high school. Chris worked hard and strived to better herself over the years. She later went on to work for John McGee Advertising for 20 years as their bookkeeper, office manager and officer of the company. Chris was a very independent and hardworking woman. She raised two girls, sometimes working two jobs just to make ends meet. She never wanted a hand out and was always proud to say, "I want to pay my way". Chris loved fishing or just being out by the water at a lake or the coast. While outdoors, she would take the opportunity to wear one of her many hats that she loved. She had all kinds from ball caps to fishing hats with all the tackle on it. She especially loved the caps she received from her grandsons who were in the Navy and Coast Guard. Chris would take every chance she could to brag about her grandchildren and start up a conversation when someone asked where she got her hats. It did not take long to turn a stranger into a friend with her engaging wit and personality. She loved dancing, many times winning dance contests. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Helen Marie Kilgore Watts. Chris is survived by her daughter, Katherine Kilgore Ratcliff and husband Larry of Bulverde; grandsons, Lane Stewart, Joshua Ratcliff and wife Stephanie, and Barrett Ratcliff. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Thomas Watts from Madison, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Brian Watts and wife Linda, Tracy Watts Velte and husband David; and ten great-grandchildren.
