Richard J. "Dick" Mayo, Sr., 87, died Friday, October 25, 2019, at his home in Buzzards Bay, surrounded by his beloved family, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Isabel (MacLellan) (Ryan) Mayo and the late Joanne M. "Cookie" (Sullivan) Mayo. Born and raised in South Boston, he was a graduate of South Boston Schools. He was a Proud Veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean War. After being Honorably Discharged, he returned home to South Boston and starting working as a carpenter. He eventually started his own business and worked as a contractor for many years. Mr. Mayo was a resident of Buzzards Bay for over 25 years and previously lived and raised his family in Stoughton from 1969-1991. He was a member of the VFW and Lions Club in Stoughton for many years. Dick enjoyed traveling with his wife Isabel to visit her family in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada every summer. He also enjoyed watching television, specifically old westerns, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Earlier in his life, he enjoyed listening to his wife Cookie play the piano and organ. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Mayo was the father of Joanne M. Cull and her husband John "Butch" of Stoughton, Michael F. Mayo and his fiancé Susan E. Duross of Marshfield, Sean P. Mayo of N. Dartmouth, Robert A. Mayo of New Hampshire and the late Richard J. Mayo, Jr. He was the stepfather of Paul Ryan, Regis Gallagher and Debora Ryan and her husband Rocco Amaru. Dick was the beloved Papa of Meaghan Mayo, Andrew Cull and his wife Jessica, Mackenzie Cull, Tyler Mayo, Erin Mayo and Isabella Ryan. He was the brother of John "Jack" Mayo of Quincy, Diane Swart of Wareham and the late Arthur Mayo, Doris Wyse, Marilyn Schumann and Robert Mayo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, October 29 at 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 11:30 AM. Visiting Hours Monday from 4-7 PM. Donations in Dick's memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.

Dick was a true gentleman and kind. I'll never forget when he came to my house in 2002 and fixed up our bulkhead and installed interior doors and knobs. My Dad enjoyed talking with him.
